Default Reccommend cooler & fan for e8500

Looking for a preferably copper plated cooler for an e8500 dual, room temps are consistently low most of the time during the year (20deg celcius) sometimes up to 28 ish. A fairly high cfm fan like the skythe would be ok but keeping in mind I am going for a silent build. Having said this I'll be doing some heavy ocing with this beast (hopefully 4ghz) so I will need some good cooling. Budget is unltd for research purposes but please don't be silly. Finally, the actual cooler with fan attached needs to fit inside an Antec p183 with no modding.

Thanks for any input.

Any xigmatek you can afford.
My HDT S963 runs quietly at 60% and keeps temps at reasonable levels (53C with constant 100% load, 1.136vcore, ~25ish ambient, 60% fan)

Default Thermalright TRUE Copper Ultra 120

This probably fits under the "don't be silly, seeing that it is around 100 bucks, but it is the one of the top CPU heatsinks, and looks amazing. Thermalright TRUE Copper Ultra-120 eXtreme, Ovcourse you will still need to purchase a 120mm fan. Here you can find it at Frozen CPU

http://www.frozencpu.com/products/83..._Preorder.html

I have seen it cheaper elsewhere I hope this helps, and Usually the term "Heavy Overclocking" and "Silent" don't go together

Agree with Spiderman's last statement there however the TRUE Copper is so heavy it is kind of looked down upon here at OCN and mainly due to the fact that it really isn't that impressive on tests....for instance the Megahalem beat it in THIS OCN member test.

Best suggestions for CPU Coolers and are in my 1st link in sig...its my sticky guide on everything that is Air Cooling. It also gives some options for fans if your looking for that special dBA you always wanted....I do suggest a fan controller if your looking for silence as you will be able to tune down any fan to the dBA level that YOU find acceptable. Fan controllers are also in my guide

Good Luck to you!

Looks good but performs only 1-2C better than the black, and the black is only 1-2C better than the original..

Though I guess thats what it comes to with coolers, it gets to the point where it cant get much better.

Yes it was a very good suggestion for an all copper heatsink but that doesn't mean we can't try and dissuade him otherwise

Idles generally are inaccurate due to the way the temp sensor on the CPU chips handle temps. They are accurate on load however. 17c would actually be quite impossible unless you keep your house at or below 17c as CPU temps wont be below your ambients without direct AC flow or phase cooling.

And of course the old adage that your temps mean nothing without knowing ambient. Wish we could get the entire community to give their temps as "temp over ambient" rather then just temps but most of the Guru's are old men that are set in their ways LOL
