What did you use for thermal compound though,AS5,TX1,2,3,stock? Also, how did you apply it? This will help us troubleshoot why your CPU is so hot.

@ Chunky_Chimp
What cooler would you suggest? My case isn't very deep (5.3 in). I think the biggest I can fit is 120mm tall. And that might be pushing it.

@Rab1t_KII3r^
i used leftover thermal compound from my stock heatsink. I looked online to see how to apply it, i but a pea size amount on and spread it with a credit card (after I cleaned the surfaces). It was thick enough to cover the cpu, but i couldn't see through it(about 2 or 3 pieces of paper thick.)

Waaaaay too thick. You should be able to see some of the metal through the compound.

Different methods are covered HERE.

Not quite. More like a 45-50 dollar cooler. It's a step in the right direction for Zalman, though, that's for sure.

I would avoid reusing the stock stuff. Pick up some AS5, or something else locally if you can, apply as mentioned in the guide, and profit!

I can understand why you would not like zalman HSF's. They are not the best performers, or are they the best PPD's. But to think that by installing that HSF he would not see a large difference over the stock HSF is daft.

Remount the thing. I would also recommend a XiggyDK. I got one and it was quiet a large improvement. Did you tighten the screws down tight enough as well? Some of those Zalman fans have weird angles to tighten with, so you might want to give that a shot.
