Default Cogage TRUE Spirit- anyone here have one?

I had heard a little about this cooler before but that Q3 review from Benchmark Reviews has it beating the TRUE and Megahalems. What's the OCN word on this thing?

Wow nice cooler for its price. Adding some good fans could really help this cooler shine eh. Hmm i might get this cooler pre-lapped along with 2 good fans to see how it does.

I heard about this, apparently a spin off division of Thermalright aimed at the mass market and cheaper products. CustomPC rated it highly.

It does not beat the Megahalems let alone the TRUE lol

It has less heatpipes and the fins are press fit, not soldered

Looks nice. I suspect the excellent performance has more to do with the fact that its heat pipes line up and directly cover the cores on the i7 than its absolute heat-transferring ability (as noted, the other coolers could theoretically dissipate more energy, but of course not if they can't absorb it as efficiently).

I'd have to say while their tests look pretty in depth I question their methods of their testing due to the inconsistencies they are showing over time.

Quote:
Q2 testbed:
Source
  • Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-EX58-EXTREME (Intel X58/ICH10R Chipset)
  • Processor: Intel Core i7-920 BX80601920 2.667 GHz (overclocked test operates at 3.60 GHz 1.35V)
  • System Memory: OCZ 6GB 1600MHz CL7 DDR3 OCZ3P1600LV6GK
  • System Drive: OCZ Vertex 120GB SATA SSD OCZSSD2-1VTX120G
  • Optical Drive: ASUS BC-06B1ST Blu-Ray Disc Optical Combo Drive
  • Enclosure: Cooler Master ATCS 840 Computer Case RC-840
  • PSU: Antec TruePower Quattro 850W TPQ-850
  • Grpahics: ZOTAC GeForce 9800 GTX+ Zone Edition (liquid cooling looped into X58 Northbridge)
  • Operating System: Windows XP Professional SP-3 (optimized to 16 processes at idle)

Support Equipment

  • OCZ Freeze Thermal Interface Material (No curing time necessary or given)
  • YateLoon 120mm cooling fan, model D12SH-12 (88 CFM @ 40 dbA)

Q3 Testbed:

(TLDR version) Only difference is the TIM used
Now...while their testbeds are very similar check out these results:

Q2 (under 3.6Ghz and 1.35v):

Q3 (under 3.8Ghz and 1.4v):

So your telling me using an almost identical testbed (including the exact same CPU) that when you upped the vcore 0.5v and the clock up 200mHz that you cut 5c off of your temps?

My Megahalems betrayed me.

The review has been out for a while, and I was surprised of the results. I concur with Shadowclock, something aint right in regards to the methods.

Well I'm not telling you anything. Maybe both tests had different variables, and it's not as important to me that Q2 have the exact same situation regarding variables as Q3, just as long as all the coolers tested in each individual test face identical or similar variables.

By you...I didn't mean YOU

I meant you as in Benchmarkreviews.com

I usually really like their reviews and it is a solid base to generally rank things but everything on their list with higher OC went down approximately 4-5c...Is OCZ Freeze the culprit to bring temps down that far even with 0.5v more against TX-3? I doubt it...which leads me to believe someone either got lazy and adjusted numbers or perhaps they learned to OC the i7 better
