I was looking at that AC Freezer Extreme, as it's in budget and looks chunky! But I'd worry that it would fit on the mobo (MSI P55-GD65), as the MOSFET heatsinks are quite big, and might get in the way? Also, I haven't thrown out the idea of the Xigmatek Dark Knight, apart from it doesn't state that it does 1156 - is that an issue?

^ That's a major issue, if it doesn't fit, then how is it going to work?
For future reference, I would get a "U" Type cooler because of the MOSFET Heatsinks (Same thing on my Asus P7P55D Deluxe) Take note that some coolers will take one RAM Slot to fit a fan.

![]() I wasn't sure if they'd made the holes in the same place, despite a different socket size (thus dispelling the myth that socket changes are a money-making scam!) This is gonna sound really noob, but what defines a "U-shaped cooler"? I thought you get tower coolers, and that other kind where the fan is vertically above the CPU rather than blowing through the side of the heat sink (like the Big Typoon) - they won't work for the air flow in my case though, as it doesn't have a side exhaust.

What defines a "U-Type" CPU Cooler is when the heatpipes are shaped as a "U" like in the picture below (Xigmatek Dark Knight):
![]() And as for the Big Typhoon type of coolers... I forgot what their are called lol. But those depends on air intake from the side of the computer case for them to be more efficient. Although after finding out about "U-Type" coolers, I would say that U-Type coolers are more efficient because it blows hot air from the CPU to the back, only if you have a exhausting fan though. While the coolers like the Thermaltake Big Typhoon are more for HTPC's and other small computer cases

Megahalem's are out of budget - and not 1156.
Chilly - that's what I though, but aren't all tower coolers like that?

^ Yep, pretty much, "Tower Coolers" and "U-Type" Coolers are the same thing basically.

Hmm, because I'm limited on options, I'm not sure what to do now. My options seem to be:
3rd option is so tempting now, for ease of selection if nothing else

Option 3 is what I did, but that was when I had the money

Incidentally, your rig looks quite similar to what mine will - scratch that, there are quite a few differences, but CPU is the same. I'm not entirely sure what OC I'm aiming for, I guess I'm hoping for 4GHz under Turbo, but don't know if that's possible without option 3??
