Can anyone link me to a review where it says that the dot method is better than the spread method since the spread method produces air bubbles when the heatsink is mounted?

It all depends on the thermal compound If you use something really thick like IC7, then check the link in my sig. If you use something like MX-2 or AS5, you can spread it over your processor, heat sink, or both like butter, but you have to make it a thin coat.
