Default Is this a fire hazard?

Basically, my fan controller for no apparent reason started smoking and failed. My cpu was overclocked to 4.0ghz and my housemate believes that it was because of that the controller failed.

Right now I'm running a single ultra kaze on the TRUE, a CM Silent Green as an exhaust fan on the mobo's fan controller and the case is an open case. CPU temps are 30-40 on minimum load.

My question is, how dangerous is it to leave the pc on 24/7? And is the fan controller failure even linked to the CPU being oced?

No, leaving the PC on 24/7 is not any more dangerous than leaving a tv on. Was this an aftermarket fan speed controller? I had a gigabyte auto fan controller burn up once. I stay away from those now.

Holy crap, how did you guess? Well, I"m NOT blaming the sunbeam, did fool around with it trying to change the crazy leds .

Just wanted to get some proffesional input instead of being told how much of a fire hazzard my comp is.

Because I've had two of them go up in smoke.

Oh well, I might be going zalman next, so hopefully they don't go up in smoke.

Housemate refuses to listen to logic, claims that if it smokes, it must be a fire hazard and I should leave it on 24/7. Frankly, if ever there was a chance the comp would catch on fire, I believe it would be the PSU's fault.

Run the fans at max right next to his bed...
That will kick some logic into him.
