Default Case Fan upgrade

Right now i have a 120mm intake on the front grille which is pulling 54cfm then i have a 120mm stock fan exhaust and the psu exhausting air i don't know the cfm of either of those. I want to add a 80mm fan on the side panel to blow more air onto the 790i spp. Good idea or no? Is it going to disrupt my air flow? And am i going to be putting to much air into the case?

^^^Are you trying to get better case temps? I have a CM Elite 330 as well but I modded it by making a 120mm blow hole on the top of the case to create more exhaust. You could add the 80mm fan on the side panel and see what case temps you'll get. Nothing like testing stuff out.

mostly i'm using it to get more air to the spp bridge and also to bring in more cool air into to the case. i will probably just test it out but i was checking for some ideas and to see what other people have done

Hawaiian's right; a blow hole is a good mod--hot air rises and can get trapped in odd places up top even with a psu exhausting.

Just my opinion, but, if you don't feel like hacking your case up, buy a very good (high CFM) 120mm and put it as the rear exhaust. Something like this: S-Flex F-Series. Granted it's a bit expensive, but, reviews showed this fan even exceeds it's rated CFM by up to 25/30CFM. These are what I use in my little case.

So, front intake + side panel 80mm (just any decent one) + S-Flex as exhaust = lots of cool air IN and most hot air being rapidly expelled by the high CFM S-Flex. The longer the warm air stays in the case, the longer it has to warm your components.

Just my opinion though.

Good luck.

If you haven't done so check out my guide (1st link in sig). If you add another intake you might be looking at positive pressure, which isn't a bad thing. My guide has a section on different pressure types as well.

Putting a stronger exhaust fan in with a decent medium speed intake and medium speed 80mm should work out fine for you. F series is a nice fan but if you want to go cheaper since its only a case fan just grab some Yate Loons they are good quality especially for that price.

ya i read up on your guide, positive pressure is something i was trying to figure out since i don't know my exhaust fan cfm and it is a stock fan. i might just replace it with a better fan like crashdummy said, then install an 80 on the side panel.

The thing is i have the Cooler Master Hyper N520 and that thing pushes a lot air. My exhaust fan is only around an inch or two away from the exhaust of that heat sink and some of the air doesn't get out because of the stock fan not being that fast. So if i change out the exhaust fan with a faster one and add an 80 it might work.

Just installed my fans love the S-Flex F series fan in the rear very quite fan and very powerful. i got an 80mm fan for the side panel also to get more air to the northbride since it is a hot one on the 790i ftw. i went with a cool master b/c i didnt want to spend $13 for a S-Flex 80mm and the cool master is one of my loudest fans now, should have spent the extra money.
