Default High Temps on Zalman CNPS10X Quiet Cool?

So I have this cooler, I know, I should have bought something different , but hey I cant return it.http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835118052

My specs are below, I have my i7 at 3.8ghz and with this cooler I idle at 42-44 degrees and to me this seems warm. Under Prime95 loads, the temps go all the way up to 77-78, which seems extra toasty.

As for TIM, I have tried zalman's TIM and Arctic Silver 5, neither seem to change much.

My questions are:
-1. are these temps normal?
-2. Would a better fan produce cooler temps? The Zalman fan is rated at 60 CFM. If a better fan would do the trick, can someone recommend something on the less expensive side thats 25mm?
-3. Would a different TIM really help me out?

I've tried re-seating it many times too, then heatsink is able to move slightly no matter what I do, which also seems problematic. Any help is much appreciated.

those temps are fine for an I7. i would not push much farther thopugh without a better cooler.

and yes, the those two things will drop you a few degrees.

and it is normal for the heatsink to be able to move a little.

Yes not the best cooler so you are definitely limiting yourself in regards to your overclock. A extra fan in pull may help anywhere from 3-7c (or new fans - see my guide for suggestions) and a different TIM may help another 2-3c.

i7 safe OCN recommended limits are not to exceed 75-80c so you are within the limit during full load.

Thanks, after re-seating it twice more and applying a thin layer of the zalman paste temps are down 1 whole degree! On benchmark reviews.com that zalman paste is actually one that they recommend in the A category. Probably time for a new fan on this sucker.
