4pin hook up to a 3pin port? - Overclock.net

I just got a new CPU cooler that I'm putting on an old AMD computer but the mother board has three 3 pin ports to hook up fans but the CPU coolers fan needs a 4 pin port. So will it run with out one pin (I believe the wire to that pin is blue)? Also It's got a open 5 pin port could I use that?
Sorry if this is a simple question I've never run into this problem before.

It doesn't "need" a 4 pin port. It will work just fine, you just won't get automatic fan control.
