65W quad, and 45W Athlon II X4s should be out any day now.

Just cut a hole in the back of the cabinet and stick a 140mm fan there and you should be fine.

I have that same issue with my mother... she doesn't "want to see that huge bulky box out in the open". So she keeps it in that cubby-hole thing.

I secretly cut a hole in the back of the cupboard and bottom to allow airflow to pass through it. I checked her temperatures before and after and noticed a significant difference in the heat dissipation.

Tell them that their money is slowly being "burned" away with the computer running without adequate airflow.

I appreciate the help. There is no way I can cut a hole in this. It looks like 1/4 solid oak. That might hurt the value of it...

What about a virtual PC?

If your not cutting into it and its completely sealed then don't bother buying a computer. You're going to burn up the components over time...thats all there is to it. Maybe and I say "maybe" the only way to avoid this would be to keep the front door open during use and anytime that little door is shut then shut off your computer.

Can you store the computer behind the desk hidden but still get access to the peripheral slots?

EDIT: On second thought...there has to be some type of hole that allows peripherals to be wired up to the desk....doubtful the hole is big enough to make an air flow difference but its possible.

I think everyone gave you the best recommendations available. If your parents are not willing to budge, then a new pc is not in the cards.

Then they will just keep you employed repairing and replacing their pc. If they arent doing anything too radical on it, then they would be better off getting a good laptop and monitor, and dock the laptop.

Actually a great solution for you would be a IMAC...no box! Problem solved...of course you won't get that for nearly $400 and it wont be nearly as powerful as anything PC you can get.

EDIT: Here you go...non-box solutions: HERE
