Default Is this right for a TRUE/i7?

I bought a TRUE for my i7 860, lapped it to a mirror finish (of course, I made sure it was a perfectly flat bottom w/ graph paper and razor blade). Fan wise I'm using a 2000 RPM Ultra Kaze, and AS5 for my thermal compound.

Under load, the highest temp I've seen is 54C, at idle 29C with ambient at around 20C. I don't know if my expectations are too high for it, but this seems like it's running pretty warm for stock speeds. I've also read that with AS5, it needs about 200 hours to cure, but once the curing process is finished I should see a decrease of 3-5 degrees. Is there any truth to that?

AS5 does need 200 hours to cure which will decrease the temps a bit. Temps seem ok much better then mine at stock Ultra Kazes aren't that great of fans though, zI've heard they dont have very much static pressure

Yeah I figured that out the hard way I think... it CLAIMS to be a high static pressure fan but really, I don't think it's working out so well. It's also a 38mm fan so it's a really tight fit inside my case, pressed right up against the RAM. I think on payday I'm going to pickup a couple smaller fans and do a push/pull config.

Welcome to OCN Dinglehoofis! You are definitely correct in everything you stated. As for temps I am not too familiar with that CPU so I won't report on that. A better fan might help, Check out my guide (1st link in sig). Plenty of solid fan choices there

Apparently the temps I'm getting are actually pretty solid. I was told to anticipate around 25 idle and 50 load, which I think is fine. I let Prime95 run on the CPU torture test while I was at school to help speed up the curing process and now I'm actually noticing a temperature decrease of about two degrees on both load and idle.

I'll check out your guide for sure, I'm definitely going to be getting some different fans... this kaze is noisy too.

kinda off topic but is there a way to make your computer shut off if temps pass a certain point?

Should have that option in bios.

The computer will pretty much do this at a point to save itself but usually those are at temps that people aren't comfortable...even enthusiasts. There is software that can do this as well...would have to google it.

Realtemp which most of us use can do this: Source

Set Alarms

This allows you to set a high temperature alarm based on your CPU temperature or your GPU temperature if you have an Nvidia GPU. You can also click on Alarm EXE to run a .exe or .bat file whenever a high temperature alarm goes off. Included is a file called RTShutDown.bat which runs the shutdown.exe Windows command which can be used to force your computer to shut down if your CPU core temperature gets too hot. The file will only be run once per overheating episode. You will need to go into the Settings window and push on OK to rearm this alarm.
