Default Fans make a very high pitched sound

Ok I just bought and installed the following fans and fan controllers:
(Yate Loon 120mm Fan)
(Rheobus Fan Controller)

http://www.frozencpu.com/products/61...2SH-124UB.html
http://www.frozencpu.com/products/87...lack_FC-3.html

And when I undervolt my fans they make a very high pitched squeal, at about the pitch of a CRT monitor that makes a noise. I swear there are things that only me and dogs can hear, but I'm sure there are other techies that hear these extremely high frequencies from time to time.

Is there anything I can do about this?

It's not *that* bad and I almost always wear headphones when I am on my computer. Just anything over my ears blocks the sound entirely because it is such a high frequency. In fact it's kind of wierd, I can turn my head just the right way and not hear it.

But any possible solutions are appreciated.

Well thats weird my suggestion would be either be to leave the fans at stock speed or RMA it. Try the fan controller with other fans because it might be the fan controller for some reason.

Well I don't really want to leave them at full speed all the time, I turn them down or even off when I'm away from the computer - I've monitored my temps and so long as I keep one fan on the CPU temp stays low. I just turn them all up when I'm playing a game.

I have tried the fan controller with one of my old fans and they did not make a noise (and they didn't seem to undervolt very well either). So the noise is in the fan its self.

All 3 of the 120mm fans I have connected to it make this sound. I have a 140mm fan (of the same brand and style) that is much more quiet and does not make the sound.

They're really good fans and I'm very glad I bought them - but if this sound can be removed or reduced it would be nice. I don't think there is anything wrong with the fans, is this really so odd?

Just a heads up, the FC3 is really designed for appropriate powered individual fans between 10 and 25 watts. I just went through two different Lamptron FC3's and one FC2 and none of my fans (YL also) would undervolt at all; nothing less than 8volts. You'd be better off getting a Sunbeam Rheobus.

Well my FC3 seems to do a fair job at undervolting these fans - I guess when I turn the knob halfway up the fan is at higher than 50%.

But it's really not a problem for me
Thanks for advice though, perhaps I'm lucky then.
