Default need help on how to power a simple fan for modem

hi..

im pretty new to electronics (i dont know how to solder) so im rather terrified of electrocuting myself.

all i'm thinking of doing is sticking a simple cpu fan on top of an adsl modem to help cool it. i think i can manage the sitcky tape but am not sure how to power it.

i was going to use an old nokia mobile phone ac/dc converter (5-7V? i think) but i was worried about pulling apart the cord at the end fo the adapter..

are there any tips or sites i can read on basic :-
- "how not to get electrocuted or start a fire" techniques
- what kind of basic steps should i use? (eg: are the wires colour coded?)

anyway if you can point me to a simple how to site that would be good.

... But ... why?

You could get a PCI slot cooler if you really wanted to and just attach the molex connector to a PSU rail for power?

Although, I still want an answer to WHY THE HELL you want to cool your ADSL Modem. XD

not sure about the adapter since i've yet to splice one, but for fans, red is the 12v live wire, which is the + terminal to motor. the black wire is the ground or - wire to motor. sometimes there may be a third wire thats of a bright colour, thats the speed output. u dont exactly need that since your modem wont monitor fan speeds

A Cali person knows someone from little ol' S'toon?

Saskatoon might be a small city but even I don't know everyone of the 250,000 inhabitants. This is actually the first time I've heard of that group. There are likely MANY more dancer groups here.
