Why on earth is it that whenever I put my E6600 (stock clocks, *sob sob*) under load my idle temp of 52 degrees C is exactly the same as my load temp? Only time this doesn't happen is when I've cold booted(idles at about 40-ish then).
Could it be that my cooler is made of absolutely pure win? Or is it so *insert bad word here* that it's pure fluke?

Sounds like your CPU is constantly under load. Never should the idle temps be the same as the load temps, not to mention that 52C is a very high idle temp.

My ambient temp is pretty high. But yeah my cooler does suck. Me needs moar monies to buy moar better cooler :/. In fact I need a whole new case, my new GTS250 is taking up all the space where air once flowed...
You should've seen when I cleaned that cooler out. I got it 6 years ago when I got my first P4 and decided it would do a better job than the standard intel cooler. It does, but not when it has 6 years worth of dust on it ![]() What's the cheapest decent cooler around?

I just re-applied TIM and saw a 10*C drop on idle, but that's also after I enabled EIST, C1E and Thermal Monitor 2 on my MOBO, since I can't OC anyway. I measure my temps with RivaTuner purely so I can control my fan and have a neat little gadget on my desktop that shows my all the hardware monitoring details.
I'm starting to think RivaTuner is giving me suspect temps. I use the Core2Duo plugin for it. Any other free software I can try? EDIT: Load temp is now at 52 degrees while playing COD4, and it does actually go back down to about 43-46 when idling. Any good?
