The fan/HS combo i bought for the 1366 xeon is noisy (Intel cr@p). Has a high pitched whine. Tried using speed fan but that did not make a diff in the noise level. Whats a good quiet cooler/fan for a socket 1366 xeon also one that does not cost much is great.

most people would recommend a prolimatech megahalem.
personally, i've not tried one, but according to a large majority of the folks over at air cooling, megahalems are the own. add a couple of Yate Loon 120mm high speed fans in push/pull and you'll be good for a resonable temperature at a reasonable noise level ![]() cheers!

@op id go honestly if you have the room in your case, with a corsair h50, the system brought my friends 920 down in temps far enough for him to oc up to 4.1 ht on 24/7 stable. For 79 bucks you cant even complain about the price of the unit. so i would go for that or a decent low noise solution in the air cooling circle. i m not up to date with air coolers, but if you read between the lines, theres a lot of good coolers in the lower budget area for non overclocked procys.

just do realize the H50 is an intake radiator.
Can also look at the Coolit Domino, similar concept/performance, but the domino exhausts air out of the case, not bringing cool air into the case like the H50

I would go for the Megahalems over a self contained water cooler. I don't even consider them water coolers. Thin rad, weak pump, cheap block, and tiny tubes. TBH a good air cooler will perform better then the H50 or the Domino.
