cpu fan speeds up in sleep/hibernate mode?
for some reason, my CPU fan is running semi-loud when the pc is in sleep/hibernate mode. as soon as i hit a key/move mouse to start it up, it emediately slows back down to near-silent speeds while idling at desktop.
__________________why is it running at above-idle speeds when everything is pretty much 'off'?

Sleep and Hibernate are two different modes in Vista/7 are you sure it's happening in both.
Hibernate is supposed to be bugged, but Sleep mode is supposed to work fine. Though, CPU fan speed is controlled by your BIOS, so look into your BOIS and see if you have any settings you can change to have your fanspeed on Auto.

ill have to double check my settings when i get home, im not sure wether it is sleep or hibernate off the top of my head

it is doing it in sleep mode. the hard drives shut down after 20 minutes, but for whatever reason, the cpu fan seems to be running above idle, but once i wake it, the cpu quiets rigth back down
