i took one of those xbox360 gpu heatsinks and plopped it on my hdd with a 80mm fan and keeps it about 32c all the time

I cool mine with an 80mm Lian Li fan, and it's in a Lian Li hard drive bay.

About 36C.

My drives idle at 38C and the hottest it got was 56C and that was transferring 300GB of information. No fan too. Then again, my side panels are off.

I have mine strategically positioned so that my front intake fan blows air over it. It really dose not matter tough.

this will tell you what temp your hard drive is.

Note that most 7200RPM hard drives aren't supposed to go past 55C really.

as long as you move some air over it it should be fine, just dont wrap it in insulation or anything

i have that.
and its reporting is congruent with speedfan and everest.
idling at 64deg now.
