Not really... A Google study found that they last the longest at 35-45C.

I wouldn't bother usually cases come with fans in the front that can air cool them. In all the years of running my pc's and servers i never had a hdd die because of heat.

I don't use any HDD Cooling. I have a fan on the front of my case which blows through the HD Bays but thats about it :P

You can get HDD cooling fans which clip onto your HDD's. Something like this...

Fan HDD Cooler

or this...

Heatpipe HDD Cooler

I'm not too worried about my drives, they're both cool to the touch (I have both of them in my 5.25" bays), if I were ever to buy some kind of cooling for them, I'd use something cheap and effect, something like this:

Just make sure you've got some air flowing through your case, maybe install a fan in front of your drive bay if your case allows to make sure they stay dust free. There's not much point in getting a cooler specifically designed for the HDD (I've seen people attach waterblocks to a HDD to water cool it - what a waste of cash ).

OP what kind of drives / case do you have? Even without a fan blowing directly over your drives they should be within normal operating temps, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

I did use a few Scythe ITA-KAZEs a while back, they work pretty well; may resurrect them for the heck of it as I'll be stuffing a few drives into bottom 5.25" bays of a P180 Mini

I had mine sitting on a table when running caseless and they got hot to the touch after awhile of drive copying. I usually keep a fan blowing air over them when they are on my workbench caseless.
