Only certain Scythe fans are good.

Scythe S-Flex & Gentle Typhoons are good fan.

Ultra Kaze's & Slipstreams are not.

Just like not all Yate Loon fans are good. Yate Loon fans from Aqua Tunning & Petra's are the good ones.

kazes for a 38mm are not THE BEST...but for your regular application (case fan) they are decently priced/performance. as for an hsf they are so so coz I realized (vs the San Ace)that it has a harder time pushing the air through the HSF (in my case a TRUE) / BUT it does push the air! hehe a hell lot of it > and to note San aces cost much more (it is for the PC enthusiast)

Listen to Tator...these other guys unfortunately are not well versed in fans. Ultra Kazes are not good fans at all in regards to what Tator has already mentioned, its been said over and over.

Great case fans would be Yate Loons. Best place to get them (US) is from Petra's. Even if you don't get them from Petras they are great cheap fans just the better ones are from Petras and Aquatuning. They are only $5-$7.

If he wants some great silent fans in the $10-$20 range then go with S-Flex or Gentle Typhoons. Extremely quiet and are great quality fluid bearing long life fans.

Scythe S-Flex F Series. If I could find the review...these were shown to run like 25/30 cfm higher than what's stated on the package when randoms were tested.

For a case fan these are good.

I know what review you're talking about, and I don't trust it at all. Their tested Noctua pushed about 6CFM, which is HUGELY unrealistic. I've knocked Noctuas before, but even I'll admit they aren't nearly as bad as the review shows. Besides, since when is it possible for an S-Flex to achieve over 100CFM, especially under realistic testing conditions? Aside from that review, I do like my S-Flex G a lot and would add it as a suggestion.

Anyway, for the OP, listen to Tator Tot, his advice is spot-on.

Slipstreams use underpowered 80mm fan motors on a 120mm fan body. Do not produce the amount of CFM they spec at. Have very loud an annoying motors.

They also tend to burn up when under a highly restrictive enviroment. Like having fan filters on them, or being put on high end air coolers or radiators.

Vapor at Xtremesystems (very well respected fan reviewer here):
Quote:
...
the Slip Stream struts its stuff. Disappointingly, it never gets silent, even at 5V, but it performs well in open air and has a decent noise profile.
...
So I began testing noise on a radiator set up and....wow...my ears were right, the thing makes a ton of new and extra noise on a radiator. Whereas the Yate Loon and S-Flex basically were unchanged on the radiator, the Slip Stream acted like a completely different fan--a fan out of the 1200RPM class.
....
Please remember that CFM to RPM is roughly linear, with a slight reduction in efficiency as RPM increases....now try the same thing for the Minebea series (very good CFM ratings ) and look at the numbers....tell me again those Slipstream specs aren't BS.
