Default Scythe Mugen 2 for E8400

Hi ocn friends,

I am thinking of overclocing my E8400 to aroud 4.0+ ghz and I saw this cooler will fit in my case and its a pretty good one. Do you guys agree with me?

And what Thermal grease do you recommend me or should i just use the grease that comes with the cooler?

If your 8400 is an EO stepping cpu it should (but not guaranteed) do 4GHz with minimal voltage tweaking. That Mudgen 2 would be a good cooler for that. There are better out there to be sure but the Mudgen 2 is still a d@mn good cooler and the price is really low now. *I'm debating whether or not to order one myself...just saw a pict with one on a board with RAM just like mine.*

Just my personal preference: OCZ Freeze thermal grease. No cure time, non-conductive (not really a problem anymore with TIMs) good price. Gives me good temps even with my smaller (92mm) Vendetta and insane voltages on this pooptastic cpu I have.

Good luck.

Edit: Forgive my bad manners. Welcome to OCN.

The Mugen is a good heatsink, but you could also fit a TRUE, Megahalems, or a Dark Knight into that case. All of which will get your E8400 to 4.0 with good temps.

The TRUE and Mega are the 2 best heatsinks on the market today.

thx

but my E8400 is CO so it will need a bit more voltage tweaking

EDIT: maybe it's better to take the mugen 2 because when upgrading to core i7 I can use the mugen again
