So I have overclocked my i7 920 to 3.0GHz quite comfortably on my Asus P6T Mobo. I undercharged the Core Volt to 1.1volts and I will experiment to see if the CPU can handle even more undervolting.. or if the current volt can handle up to 3.5 GHz, if anyone knows this already please tell me =)
Anyway, my idle temps shows that i get around 45 degrees after running for several hours. Is this normal? I am using a Noctua NH-C12P CPU Cooler and before OC the CPU idled at late thirties, wouldn't go past 41.. and that was when volt was automatic @ 1.2 volts. Here is a pic of idled temps of OC: ![]() At 100% load my temps max at 68, but stick around the mid 60's region. When i was OC'in at default volts it was mid 70's.. so I am a lot happier with these temps but would liek some confirmation from the experts (you guys =D ) Here is a pic: ![]() So yeah, mostly concerned abotu idle temps, happy with full load. And was also wondering if i could OC to 3.5ghz @ only 1.1 volts? Also, what other settings would you reccomend me changing in bios? I have disabled cpu fan control by o/s and turbo, DRAM @ 1200. Anything else i should consider? I know i am missing some things. Cheers

Yeah, those are normal.
edit: Actually @ only 3.1GHz they seem a bit high. Those are around the temps I get at 4GHz. More edit fun: But as long as you're not reaching the 80+C range, there shouldn't be a problem.

Something I noticed you can do to see if you have a good contact base on your heatsink is to force it down on the processor a bit while the computer is running. If temperatures decrease AT ALL you need to reseat the heatsink. That might be giving you higher than normal temperatures. Also make sure you use TIM.

TBA, any speed on an i7 is rediculous. The way the core is designed even a 1.6GHz i7 beats out competing 3GHz Qxxxx and Phenom IIs

Those are similar to my temps at 3.8OC, my idle is a bit lower.
