Hey guys (and gals)
![]() I've been trying to OC this Athlon XP 1800+ in my sig, but I'm getting stuck. In my BIOS, there is a clock frequency adjuster, but only goes to a certain point. Here are the options: FSB/PCI Clock [Default] [133Mhz/33Mhz] [137Mhz/34Mhz] ... [154Mhz/39Mhz] [166Mhz/33Mhz] I can get the PC to boot up at 154Mhz FSB but I had to clear the CMOS when I tried 166Mhz. Is this caused by my RAM or my CPU? Should I get a stick of PC2700 333Mhz DDR RAM? Or should I get a higher end CPU? Could it possibly be the PSU? (Total system reqs = 270W) I'm using the stock CPU cooler and a few case fans. Thanks for the help! ![]() ~numlock2.0 |

Well it could be the boards limitations holding you back...can you adjust any voltages??

At a minimum, you would need PC2700, but your best bet would be PC3200 (because PC3200 at PC2700 speeds typically has better timings)
Booting up at 154 is kinda dangerous for your system, because your PCI frequency is out of range (anything above 37 is considered out of range) and your AGP frequency is definitely out of range at 154. Acceptible PCI/AGP frequencies (33/66 stock) is 37/72. With some faster ram, and with some more CPU voltage, you should be able to run that 1800 up a bit more. ***EDIT Just read the cpu voltage issue hmmm. Deathonator flogged an 1800, might even still be running it, I wonder if he has some insight ![]() ***SECOND EDIT What's the specs on the rig you're saving for?

Also that does a multi un-lock...Maybe keep an eye out for another board cheap.

So, I just checked out the BIOS. There are a few options in the clock frequency control submenu:
Auto Detect DIMM/PCI Clock [Enabled] Spread Spectrum [+/- 0.25%] [-0.5%] [+/-0.5%] [+/-0.75%] [Disabled] CPU Host/PCI Clock in OP Those are the only options. No CPU voltage. I guess I'll try the multiplier unlock if I get the chance (or if I can). |
