Default Asus M2N-SLI deluxe voltage problem

I have an Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe motherboard with the accompanying Phoenix bios (rev. 0702 - just flashed it a few days ago).

In my bios setup, I set my CPU voltage to 1.56. However, both CPU-Z (v 1.38) and SpeedFan (v 4.28) indicate that my voltage is 1.45 (actually, it fluctuates a little between 1.4-1.45, though the two programs remain in sync w/one another).

I've disabled cool-and-quiet and my temps never exceed 50c when running two instances of Prime95, so that would seem to indicate (wouldn't it?) that my voltage is less than what I set it to. What gives? How do I get my voltage up? (Or is it up and these programs are both misreading?) For what it's worth, ASUS' PC Probe II says my voltage is 1.6 (the new Asus Probe 2.25.02 won't install on my machine properly).

Any help would be great.

System;
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ Windsor (stepping 2)
Asus M2N-SLI
2 gig Corsair PC2-6400
Freezer 64 heatsink/fan
Asus 550 power supply

About this voltage problem - let me summarize what I've found so far:

1. BIOS JumperFree setting: 1.4500V
2. BIOS Hardware Monitor & ASUS PC Probe readings: 1.50V
3. CPU-Z readings: 1.296V
4. Measured by voltage meter: 1.35V

The last one not measured by me but another M2N-SLI Deluxe owner. He stated that the voltage meter readings are roughly 0.05V higher than the CPU-Z readings.

See the attached images which prove my statements.

The A8N32 pretty much adds close to .065 automatically. It is just a characteristic of the board...And you also need to make sure you have the overvolting option off unless it is needed

Well I call this a voltage drop. I've set 1.45V in the BIOS and it measures as 1.35V with the voltage meter. Drop of 0.1V... no good

Ah, the overvolt option. I think that's what I've been looking for. How do you overvolt your board? My board won't let me go higher than 1.56 (not that it's advisable to do so).

I never go higher than 1.4750V in the BIOS. Anything higher doesn't change things. I guess you have a pretty good cooler on your CPU yet the overclocking capabilities doesn't improve above certain point. With me this point is 1.4750V. Currently I'm running on 1.45V @ 2604 MHz (217x12). I really can't get it stable above 2650 MHz no matter what voltage.

I noticed your HT frequency is over 1000mHz, have you tried lowering the ht multiplier then trying for a higher overclock. My 4200 is stable @ 2.7 so you should reeally be able to hit that at least

Yes, I have tried HT x4 and x3, but found out it doesn't change things. Also lowering the DRAM multiplier doesn't help. I'm hitting a brick wall and I start thinking it's the mobo. I can go up to 2.7 and 2.75 but Othos fails at one point or another. If you have any other suggestions I'll be grateful.

I regret buying the M2N-SLI Deluxe. I should have purchased M2N32-SLI instead. It's far better overclocker.

Hi Muttley,

Please post your question to the ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe forums where me and a bunch of other guys will try to help you:

http://vip.asus.com/forum/topic.aspx...Language=en-us

Yes, the first thing to do is upgrade the PSU. It doesn't guarantee that the BSODs will disappear but is a necessary step. Let me know (on the ASUS forums) how's your rig feeling with the new PSU.
