Default No Post no Beep MSI DKA790GX

Hi all

Being very new to the building and OC i started yesterdaynight with all my new gear.
Went really well, and all functioned besides a bios startup error "checking nvram" which i will adress later. I got around it and installed XP all seemed well, but after some checks it appeared it was using the 800Mhz mem option instead of the 2 x2gb 1066 OCZ reaper memory installed ?
So i changed some settings in the bios, Disabled Cooln quit, Enabled ACC, then changed a setting in the DRAM i forget the name. (EPP ??)
Each time before that i tried changing the DRAM settings but when i entered the mem bank menu the bios screen froze each time, so i changed some saved and reset... No Post, no beeps, Black Screen :-( buhh, so i tried resetting the CMOS with the onboard button.
After several tries no luck, have been reading bit on forums and found i may have not done it right, so i will try pushing it for 10+seconds, after that i will try removing the batterie, then step by step removing mem+hardware to see if it responds to anything ?
I guess this is a glitch in the OC heavenMatrix that many of us have to pass to reach the speednirvana ?
So after i hopefully get it back to post, i still need to adress those 2 problems described above ?
If any of you have experience or advice in this pls comment anything i can use ? And thx in advance for bein helpfull :-)
Hope my sig gives the system details below ?

mmmmm. you got yourself in quite a pickle. when resetting the CMOS, which is the best option, take the battery out FOR A GOOD 10 MINUTES.

If the default BIOS options dont work after resetting the cmos, take out the video card and use on board, try alternating RAM sticks.

haha i just figured out i bought a KA790GX and they gave me a DKA790GX Board for the price of the first which is a difference of 60 dollars, so lucky me, guess the order picker didnt see the box title well, as indeed it has the D a bit in grey before the KA790GX clear in black :-)
Good thing i noticed for flashing,
btw when i flash the bios, does this mean it overwrites the factorydefaults forgood, so when things go wrong and you reset it it goes back to new flashed bios defaults i assume ? Just checking , seems logic but still, my learning curve is at least steep up these days ;-)

yes. when you flash, you update the BIOS. And when you reset CMOS on the new BIOS after flashing, it will restore to the defaults of the new bios.

But i doubt the defaults will be different. However, flashing is a REALLY good idea. If taking out the battery for 10 minutes doesnt work...

Ok and the good news is <) i took out one Mem module, and reset the cmos holding it down long enough on power off cabels out , so it reposted the basic again
Then i used all the info on the new USB Flash newest Bios of MSI for the DKA790GX Platinum as its the same for my board, and it worked perfectly... i am happy

First problem was that error on nvram etc.. but thats solved with the new bios

Remains now the problem with my mem goin on 800Mhz while its 2x2gb 1066 ??
I will focus on that now and try to achieve it.
What stays is when i enter the DRAMM in the bios, as soon as i enter the first dimm, the screen freezes so i cant change anything there.
Do i need to enable the EPP option for the Dramm ???
I dont know what EPP is or if it changes.. i guess now i should look into the OC of the mem ?

So thx sofar for all help, and all new info on this is also welcome

I found this post about it but problem is i cant change the steppings on the mem
http://www.overclock.net/amd-memory/...need-help.html

ok thx and for now i am very happy

Some boards claim to support DDR2 1066 native. Mine does. And people have issues when trying to run their RAM at 1066. 800mhz has the slightest performance loss compared to 1066. If not any at all. There might be like 0.5fps loss lolz.

As for the EPP and the BIOS freezing when you go to the DRAM menu.. maybe you should look into downloading memtest 86+ and checking both sticks for errors.

Good luck.

Remember, 800mhz compared to 1066mhz, he performance boost is close to none.

Ok and the latest final good news, i enabled the EPP in the ZRamm menu of bios , and now finally i can see in Everest its working as should be on 1066, one happy mother atm...
Still when i run CPUZ it says its working on 800 ?
But in the Everest Ultimate edition its working all top notch, scoring all high end so.
For now i will keep Dynamic Overclock Techn Active as i dont have a good cooler yet, and just want to enjoy all for a bit first before i start having no posts for a while..

Now i will study the beepings on post, as i think there might be one or 2 too many ?
I think i have 4 , seems unlogic. further study

thx again by

======= RAM ISSUES =========

Everest and CPU-Z reading different speeds for the RAM. In CPU-Z The ram page/ tab is not the SPD tab.

Select the Memory tab in CPU-Z and it will tell you the freq. It should be 533. Remember, its DDR - double data rate, so you double the reading in CPU-Z.

If you still are getting different results, then the ultimate and final way is to check through the BIOS. The BIOS will be correct - 100% under normal conditions.

======== TO THE BIOS BEEPS ========

Could you describe them? Like, are the 4:

Lonnng-short-short-short?

================================

Thanks,
apocolypze

ok great info again thx alot.
I opened the ATI advanced window after i saw that my temperatures of the GPU was way too high.
I discover that i need to manually override the GPU Fan and set it to 100% , after that all temps were good.
Strange that when i let the system decide it goes to a very low speed ???
I guess having the fan at 100% is keeping it nice and cool, although i am not sure if this is the way to go ? Shoudl it also adjust speed depending on workload ?

The beeps i will try to describe hereafter as they are quite soft, and also differnt pitch hights ?

for now sleep first
