Default CMOS Checksum Error

Why do I keep getting a CMOS Checksum Error on my ABIT AT8-32X? I replaced the battery two days ago. I guess I'll have to do it again?

Check the voltage on the battery, that could be a problem.

Other than that, it's an unstable overclock.

CMOS checksum errors can accur for a few different reasons. Bad batteries are one of those reasons. You'll def know if your battery is bad if the system does not keep the correct time and date.

Other things can can cause CMOS checksum errors. A bad combination of bios settings while overclocking cas cause the system to become so unstable that the system can not save the CMOS settings properly and the CMOS becomes corrupt. Another thing that can cause this is a bad bios flash or currupted bios flash although this one is rarely the case as it seems most of the times if the bios is corrupt from a flash the system wont even work at all.

If your having CMOS checksum errors then I would trouble shoot it by doing the following. Check and rule out CMOS Vbat as the culprit then take notes on what settings you tried to save in your bios screens just before you encountered the CMOS checksum error. chances are your trying to use settings that are too unstable and your system can't properly save your CMOS settings.

Good Luck,

N2G

I'll replace the CMOS battery ASAP. I'm going away next week so I won't be on till school starts up again, and my computer time will be very limited.

I replaced the CMOS battery a few weeks ago and the message was gone. IT was the battery.
