Well I have this old computer here, runs on some AMD Duron CPU at 850 MHz, that's pretty much all I know about it
. It's running Windows XP right now (don't ask me how), and I'd love to put a Linux distro on it. The problem that arises is that it doesn't boot from CD-ROM, and putting it first in the boot order section in the BIOS doesn't seem to work either. I just don't get the option to start the CD instead of the hard drive while it's booting like I should. Since I don't know a lot about these old things, I thought I'd ask for some help here. The thing does have a Floppy drive as well, but I don't have any Floppy's laying around, so that doesn't help either...Any help would be appreciated, I really don't know what to do XD. Edit: The motherboard appears to be an MSI K7T Turbo2 with 256 MB of unmarked RAM.

If the cd is first in the boot order and it skips it, it may not be reading correctly. Try unplugging the hard drive and floppy and see if you can get the CD to boot then, if not you may need a new disc or a new cd-rom drive.

The CD drive works fine once I boot into XP, and I have already unplugged the Floppy drive =/.

If it's on an IDE cable with the hard drive switch the order they are connected on the cable so the cd rom is master

try pressing F12 (IIRC) on boot...it should bring up the boot options, and then you choose to boot from the CD
not sure when you need to press is, so keep doing it til it gives you the option edit: it could also be F8, but very early on in the boot process, because later it just asks for the OS boot options ie. Safe Mode or other

There's only one drive in it, I already unplugged it and plugged it in again.
