Hi all,
Im posting from my laptop as my pc is in a spot of bother, ok the motherboard is an asus m3a79t deluxe. Today I decided to update the bios as mine was nearly 8 months old and wanted the new features etc, I was on 0702 I think and went for the latest bios 11 something, anyway flashed within vista 64 and everything went fine no errors etc, rebooted and everything fine got into bios and out in my previous settings then saved then went into windows, I did this about 5 times testing out the bios settings then rebooted once again but this time I was greeted by an error: Quote:
Ive been googling this all day and it seems to be a common asus fault or bad flash, now I dont have the money to buy a new one, on the box it says 3 year warrenty. ive read sus dont actually take it back I need to contact my supplier I bought it from but ive forgotton who I bought it from, im going to look for the debit card log so try and find it. Now before I try and return it is there anything I can do to get this board alive again?, I went into the flash utilty to try and flash again but it says the bios on the motherboard cs is too old and wont flash with it, I can only flash from the dvd drive it seems how would I go about flashing it again?, would I have to use the latest version ?. This has seriously annoyed me, this board cost me a lot of money and it seems asus is a fault with a dodgy bios file, if I would have known this I wouldnt have flashed , but I thought its an offical asus what could go wrong. Its weired that it worked fine for about 5 reboots too, is there any way if I cant flash it of buying the actual bios chip?, the board will cost me 100 pounds if I have to buy another. Please help me guys!. Thanks very much.

In order to reset a BIOS to it's default settings there is usually a jumper that you have to change while removing the battery. Also, modern BIOS's are powereed by the Power supply even if the computer and the power supply are turned off. To depower the BIOS chip (and force a reset to defaults) you have to reset the jumper, remove the battery and unplug the PSU from the wall outlet.

Thanks I tried that and didnt solve it, I even tried reflashing the bios again and same error is still there.
For people with the same problem looking in via google etc I have decided to buy a replacement bios chip for about 12 pound, theres a guy from the netherlands on ebay that sells them, they come with bios flashed, just take old out and stick in new, problem solved and cheaper then buying a new motherboard. It looks like this is asus specific also, I will update you on how the new chip is.

Are you sure your motherboard BIOS chip is removable? On most boards they're just soldered in place. Also, does your ASUS have the CrashFree BIOS feature? I've used that a few times and it's saved me. Finally, have you tried flashing from a bootable DOS USB key? I have seen a number of problems arise from flashing in Windows.
