Default gigabyte GA-MA770-DS3 supported cpu-s

i wanted to accompany my ma770-ds3 (rev 1.0) with a new cpu - athlon II x2 240 (tight budget, and it seems like an solid oc'er). i've looked at the cpu support page (http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/M...2722#anchor_os) and was supprised that x2 240 is not a named partner on the list, but 250 is. which i find surprising because to my understanding they are basically the same cpu with a different multy.

so i was wondering has someone triied the named combination (GA-MA770-DS3 + x2 240) so i don't get blindsided

"googleing" i was...

It appears that your problem is a socket issue... The 240 is an AM3 socket cpu and that board only supports AM2/AM2+ cpus.

The support page you linked is misleading because it lists the AM3 cpus, and then puts (almost as a footnote) on the far-right column that the motherboard's support of those cpus is "N/A".

Since you specified the x2 240 (at a price of approx $65 on newegg currently) and you're looking for a budget priced CPU to upgrade to... check out these three CPU options for a CPU under $100.

Hope this info helps!

thx for the .nfo. i've decided to buy a new mbo.

can't decide between these two: http://www.giga-byte.co.uk/Products/...ProductID=2982 ..... http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/...me=GA-M720-US3. the second one is a little cheaper, but i'm scared that it will overheat (like all nforce chipsets after nforce3) and that it will be limited by htt overclock. any suggestions?
