I have seemed to encountered an issue where I cannot make manual modifications to both my memory settings and my cpu/mb settings.

If I go into the memory submenu and change the memory frequency, then it will automatically set my clock speed in the cpu/mb setting submenu, and revert those settings to automatic even if I previously set it to manual. If I then try to change it back to manual, it will reset my memory settings to automatic. Therefore, it seems like if I am going to change my memory settings, I cant set the memory voltage (which is in the cpu/mb settings menu), or even change the cpu frequency, voltage, etc.

Am I missing something, or is this just the way it is?

Additionally, I am working through my first OC attempt, and am a little confused on the 'Hyper Transport Frequency' setting in the bios menu. It can either be set to 1x thru 5x or Auto. I could use an explaination of what this does and how it effects/should be set for my overclocking.

Disregard on this part! I now understand why I was confused about that. Still not sure about the menus getting set to auto though if anyone can still help me with that

Hmmm... Have u tried updating the BIOS and see if this still persists ?

Well a bios update will most definately fix this problem ive heard this issue so many times now..go to the asus site and get the latest bios for your board and flash it and viola you should have a nice bios that works.

I am at 1011 now, which I believe is the latest, but I will double check. Since I posted this question, I did find a OC'ing guide on here that did mention that if you raise your memory frequency manually, it overrides the manual settings on your cpu, and reverts them back to automatic. So for instance, if I bring up my mem clock speed to 216/433Mhz, my manual CPU settings will be automatically negated, and it will set my cpu speed to 216Mhz.

I havent found this to be a huge problem, other than I cant really find the max speed of my memory very easily because it forces me to put the cpu into the equation.

That is why if you want to find your max mem. speed you should turn down the multiplier on the CPU. Otherwise when you raise the memory FSB, the CPU will become overclocked. Just drop the CPU multiplier down a couple of notches and you won't have to worry about the CPU Frequency going up too high.

I was under the impression that it reset the multi to AUTO when you increased the memclock above 400Mhz? I will have to double check that.

When you change the FSB speed, that effects the CPU, the HT, and the RAM. They are all tied together. Don't let your HT get above 1000MHz (that HT multiplier x FSB < 1000).

It shouldn't reset the multiplier. Nothing should get reset as long as you use all manual options and DON'T increase the DDR400 to say DDR433 or DDR466. You know that option that has specific choices of DDR333, DDR400, DDR433, DDR466. Just leave that at DDR400. If you increase that option then it resets some other things to auto. However, if you just want to see how high your CPU can run and your memory can't handle it, then you can change that option to either DDR366 or DDR333, that is called the divider on Asus boards. It will lower the frequency of the ram without lowering the CPU frequency. Just change the voltages, the multiplier, the FSB, and your memory timings (just the first 4 timings really). In that Jumper Config. menu where you pretty much change all the voltages and stuff, there really shouldn't be anything in there that is on AUTO.

Make sure you're running memtest once your memory frequency starts getting more than it's factory settings to make sure the memory doesn't have any errors.
