Hey all, this is probably a dumb question, but cna a BIOS that doesn't fully support a CPU hinder an overclock? Specifically I've only been able to stably OC my Opteron 148 to 2.7 Ghz. My Temps are 28C-30C idle and 35-37 under load. I went to the Asus site and it said that for my CPU I was supposed to have a BIOS newer than the one I have. So I flashed it and now I'm wondering if I can proceed to overclock further. What do you think?

Depending on the stepping of your CPU(unless it's an CABGE) you should
hit 2.8 with out much of an voltage raise. Try to see if you can find any of the following strings on the label which on the IHS(the placket of the CPU): CAB2E CACJE CABYE There is anpother common good stepping that is fairly old, but i doubt that you have it. Hope i helpt.

Yeah, I did and it's stable slightly higher (2.74) with stock voltage instead of the higher voltage it seemed to want before. In the end I don't think I'll get any higher due to my RAM, but I haven't gone crazy with the settings yet.
