I'd be a little irritated as well if my drives didn't perform as expected, much less Raptors.

How's the memory working out? I remember a while back when getting the sticks that DFI was picky with certain ICs which was why I opted into getting an Asus and not a DFI for the OCZ. What timings are you currently running and what vdimm?

The memory itself isn't going to hit anything near what a 2x512 kit would, thats just the inherent nature of DDR 2gb kits. Take a look on the 'egg at some of the reviews for the ram. Some good stuff, but nothing like some of the new micron DDR2 in any regard.

Good luck with the rest of the build and good to hear you got the BT workin' properly.

I just put the FX57 intot he Asus board you sold me and booted up with the OCZ RAM and it was fine at 2650. Almost got the SCSI drives loaded--but I apparently boke my floppy drive shifting it from one rig to another. So of course I could not load the F6 driver. Why the hell does an OS coded in 2003 even have to use Floppy drives. typical MS BS.

Anyway I was really hot bench the Asus--as I know Asus kicks ass. Pretty much ready to relegate the DFI tot he folding farm at this point--it is just not fast enough on the bandwidth.

I have a pair of 7800GTs and some waterblocks and am planning to CO the living piss out of the FX57 and the GTs.

I like the old school gear--but I need to find that magic combo. Like my P4P800SE--that board still rocks. Even though it's P4 it still performs.

So it was an interesting experiment and I have been twiddling with it non stop for two days...

^^ I feel your pain, setting up win2k3 servers at work and not being able to laod OS directly to the RAID drives, lack of a working floppy

What I do is completely go around that by installing the OS on the one drive, then having it mirrored onto the next drive, but I bet you cant do that with striping (I wouldnt know, I have never used RAID 0 or RAID 0+1, only RAID 1)

Bst of luck to you in your driver-involved endeavors. THe reason I didnt spend more than 200$ on HDDs for my sig rig is because of the same crap you are goign through, the NF4 being **** for RAID speed, and then the SI being **** when overclocking... its quite an uphill battle between those 2.

Im glad I subscribed here, excellent thread ^.^b

Glad you think so. I did get a Floppy and I did mount RAID1 with the LSI HBA and two Cheetahs--Dismal is not even the word--unless HD tach is completely confused I am getting 2MB/S transfer rate...OMG
I get 40mbs witha a single U160 Cheetah on my other rig running a PCIx in a PCI slot...not sure what the prob is--PC is really slow too....like over a minute to boot versus 12 seconds for the Raptors...

Not liking the NF4 chipset--give me ICHR chipsets!

You might want to check around, there is a post in here some where on the "I" version which is killing RAM
It went through several sets of RAM and may have a serious issue.

Agreed, this isn't the only place I've heard it from, either. That's definitely NOT a mobo I'd buy & patiently wait for a BIOS update for.

Of course it would have to kill the most expensive part of a current rig (save for the GPU in some cases)...

nVidia has the engineers to do so much better than they have for the past few generations of chipsets. They've managed to screw the pooch on the last three attempts at a viable Intel enthusiast-class chipset, and if they can't get it right this time, they're up a creek without a paddle in this section of the market. Not only that, but the flubs they make keep getting more blatant & expensive for the consumer... Going to be interesting to see how this one pans out.

CD, with all the F6 problems you're having you may try to use nLite, or an equivalent, to streamline your XP install to include the drivers. I tried it with this RAID 5 setup and it worked for me.

Not just the F6--the performance is too poor to even consider using the drives in this configuration.

I have only gotten as high as 122 MBs with the Raptors--but at least it works.

I am starting a new thread for the Asus FX57 rig. Velocitor is working pretty good with the Raptors and X1950pro--not really sold on the NF4 chipset--but the X2 is great chip.

PCmark05 rates Velocitor at 3127th slowest (meaning that in the entire world only about 3000 machines have benched lower than Velocitor LOL) With a PCMark 04 of 1099 I pretty much will have to look elsewhere for a mobo/chip that will live up to the exalted nomer: VELOCITOR

Suffice it to say the DFI imobo is going on the back burner until I get the RAM from Lenzo to beef up the capacity. And even then I doubt it will satisfy my need for speed...Good daily driver--just not a benchmark blaster...might be good for an Audio/Video rig for now with the addition of the primo X-Fi unit. Certainly more than just a Folding rig...

I like the Antec 900 case a lot--the Raptors have massive potential that only needs a decent controller/bus to shine--the PC Power PSU is way decent...just need a more potent mobo/CPU/RAM combo...

preferably one that will let me take full advantage of a pair of x1950pros in Crossfire.
