A former member here sold me a pair of drives, cable, terminator, and 2 HBAs for $200.
I have set up 80 pin SCSI before so I thought it would be pretty decent. Not sure what the issue is that is making it so slow--but it is painful. He would send me the CD for the HBA about 2 weeks ago. Said it would take care of any issues. Not sure why he hasn't. At one time I thought he was a straight arrow--maybe all that wheeling and dealing is getting to his head... or maybe since he already has my money it's a low priority. Grumble Grumble.... Back to your questions--80 pin drives are very easy to find on Ebay--the backplane converter is about $15 for areal one--cable and terminator about the same--HBAs vary in price but a single channel u320 might be around $40. So it has that OverClocker allure--old, fast, cheap.... Not sure why it is not performing well...when I have a little more time I will try out some different things including updating the firmware on the drives and flashing the BIOS on the HBA.

Well I started tuning Velocitor and I got the CPU up to 2583mhz and the RAM at a blistering 287 x 2! I can get the RAM up to about 312 x @ before it becomes unstable at 1T timings.
The PCMark05 Score is a respectable 4714. The 3DMark06 is 4938--I want to bust 5K. Not sure how much I can clock the X1950pro. I have it at 627 core and 681 Memory at stock voltage. Any ideas about how to tweak the X1950pro? I have a feeling if I built a staight RAID0 array I might see some more speed. As the RAID10 is not rebuildable (only RAID1 is) I am unsure of the benefit of RAID10... It would be a fairly long undertaking reloading everything--but i will give it a shot later in the week. The SCSI drives are out of the box at this point--as they are painfully slow and just a waste of space (and $200 frankly) at least on this rig. Really liking the Antec case--it keeps everything nice and cool without even having to spin the FM121 on the BT faster than 900 RPM.

I am knocking at the magic 5K
4977 3D Mark06 points Bumped the core to 641, mem will not clock at all. Bumped the CPU to 2626mhz and the RAM is smoking along at DDR600! Very pleased with the way the rig is responding to little tweaks. Starting to warm up to this DFI board a little bit--especially because I just noticed the PCIe 4x slot that I could put an Areca SATA RAID controller on...

And don't worry I didn't forget about you. That fan controller is on its way as soon as finals are over.

So far I have the FSB at 380 and the multi at 7X and HTT at 3X
and the Vcore is set to 1.475 but that is the ragged edge. Windows boots then blue screens. Gonna up Vcore and see where that gets me.Tried different approaches and this seems to be yielding some results. Temps are still excellents for the CPU--thought the NB is a little warm. All right it is booting into XP at 1.475 Vcore--that was the ticket--more juice! Captured the screeny! 2660mhz and ready for a bench...

2.66 is smokin'! Best of luck kid. ![]() EDIT\\ The htt doesn't seem to be an issue. 3x 380 works out to 1140. I personally haven't seen instability before 1180 or so. 760 seems more problematic. Could just be board specific?

Benching as we speak and looking good. I was thinking the HT was geting a little stiff. I shucks--it locked up in FireFly Forest...try again...
EDIT: I had the LDT multi set to auto and now it is 2/5 yieldling a 950 freq so that should take the HT out of thepic. I upped the voltages to the max on the chipset and LDT and have the Vcore reading out at 1.472 in CPUID. Here goes another try...

The HTT isn't saturated at 1000MHz so beyond it is of no value.
