I posted a $400 build a week ago, but never ending up ordering the parts because my mom wanted me to wait and make sure it's what I wanted. It was a good thing though since I remembered she owed me some cash, so now it's a $420 build!

I already have a DVD-RW, Vista Business, and a second 250 gig HD for linux/XP. I still have thirty dollars to play around with, and I'm not sure if I should put it into the case, psu, or processor. I know the mobo could use it, but I'm planning on going quad this summer so this is just to hold me over until then. I also just bought a Zerotherm BTF90 CPU heatsink/fan, a Zerotherm GX810 VGA cooler, and a Swiftech MCX159-CU Extreme chipset cooler from By-Tor for cooling already. This will be my first time OCing so I figure that's good for a beginner. I'm not getting the graphics card for another couple of weeks, but I was just wondering on your guys opinion. I'm going to be playing on a cheap 19" flat screen, so I won't push my resolutions passed 1280x960. I plan on playing DX10 games, but mostly CS:S. Knowing this, should I get a 3850 512, 3870, or an 8800GT? I was thinking the 3870, unless I have to pay 250 for it since you can find 8800's cheaper than that. Thanks!

I know this is the AMD board and I'm probably not going to get much sympathy but I'd swap the mobo/cpu for
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819116037 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128079 The E2140 Conroe with a little OCing will totally own the Brisbane, and you can always upgrade to an E6750 with a little FSB OC should you stumble across some more money. As for the video cards, at that resolution it you really don't need anything higher than the 3850 256mb, I'm running Crysis on high at the same resolution, but for the lucky Newegg users its only $20 more, as apposed to $40 for us Canadians so the 3850 512 will be more than enough at that resolution and will perform about the same as a 3870.

HD 3850 hands down. Best price/performance I've seen since the 7900GS/X1950PRO.

Its entirely possible, with Newegg even more so: Rosewill RZS05 BLK Black SGCC Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - $20 Rosewill Stallion Series Single 12cm Ball Bearing Fan RD500-2-SB ATX V2.2 500W Power Supply - $45 Intel Dual-Core E2140 Allendale 1.6GHz - $74 MSI RX3850-T2D256E OC Radeon HD 3850 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 - $170 G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 - $45 MSI P6NGM-FD LGA 775 NVIDIA GeForce 7100 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail - $65 Total - $419, theres a $20 MIR on one of the parts too, potentially bringing it down to $399. Theres no HDD but you said you had a 250GB, the MB only has 1 ATA connector so I hope its SATA, or your dvd-rw is SATA, but 1. Do you really need 500GB? I'm running dual boot XP/Ubuntu full of games, music, and movies and I'm not even using 200GB. 2. If you really do need it, would you rather go 2 weeks with integrated graphics, or 2 weeks with only 250gb? 3. Video Cards cost substantially more than HDDs.

Thanks for the replies!
__________________I thought I read somewhere that the E2140 could hit higher OC speeds but the cache wasn't as good for gaming compared to the 4000+. I can't find the link again though. I figure that I have to wait until X-mas actually have the parts it my hands anyway, so by then I should have gotten enough cash together to order the gpu myself. Hopefully I will only be a few days without the card. Plus, I want to try to buy a case and psu that I won't have to upgrade when I start getting a more powerful processor, gpu, RAM, etc.

Maybe this PSU to start with. Good price and plenty of power. For the case, Antec 900 is a good one. I am sure there will be some sweet deals soon. Last time, I saw $59 at microcenter.

I think I am going to get what I have above, just I switched the psu for an FSP one because I have heard good things about FSP.

I really don't see any reason not to since they are the best card in that price range and are regularly offered for $220 or so (cheaper than the 3870) at stores like Best Buy.

Going Broke Overclocking

The 7025 actual is said to OC well, so with the 4000+ you may see a 3G OC.
