Would this be a good CPU for a possible up coming rig?

First off the FX74 is a Dual core http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...03866&Tpk=fx74
AMD just dropped the price of all the Phenoms and the Athlon X2s Here a 2.3Ghz Phenom link for $245 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103225 Or a 3Ghx X2 for $160 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103773 Either of those are good if you want AMD

Its a dual core, quad core can be achieved in dual socket motherboards.

That nuts, Newegg didn't have one. Either way the FX74 is using 90nm and the other two are 65nm, plus its $400. I would still consider the other two better buys. Just my opinion

Maybe you could make a switch to the dark side and get a Intel Q6600, just my 2 cents (I don't want to start a Intel/AMD flame war).

In the end, if anyone tries to argue this they are being ignorant. Its about performance, and right now Intel has the advantage. So I agree with you that a Q6600 is a good idea.

The Q6600 G0 overclocks very nicely. On the forum I have seen them at 3.6 and 3.7 on air.
