I was "Semi" lucky when I bought me a second Abit an8-sli fatality off ebay for $30. Working perfect other than it overvolts aswell as my original, I would reccomend it if it did not have that issue.

Honestly I can not really think of a decent overclocking NF4 board around that range, then again it depends on how high you want to get your chip.

EDIT: Actually your price range seems well for a good board, only thing is to find one at that price. I have not seen any in the FS section.

I am thinking 2.6 would be ok I guess. 2.8 would be nice and 3.0 would be gravy.

Even if you got a decent board, your PSU looks like it would be your downfall.
I am unsure if you planned on using it or not.

a lot of good board's are being sold in the FS section at a good price IMO

for example
http://www.overclock.net/sale/261157...i-ultra-d.html
http://www.overclock.net/sale/270578...gears-war.html

If you want to get a high OC I would deff. recommend DFI, I could'nt have been happier with my purchase.

Then again this may be out of your price range, but worth suggesting.

Are there any other boards...wow everything is killer. Also what is a good cpu cooler that isn't going to take up a ton of space inside a smallish mid-atx case?

I just did a quick search from trusted members here on OCN instead of Ebay.

As for a good heatsink, I would rather wait for someone elses opinion.

I loved my thermaltake blue orb 2, but it was a little big and kinda heavy.

Then I tried thermaltake Max orb and seen better temps but still in the big category (it fits perfect in my mid-tower)

Or you cannot go wrong with a zalman

Thats my $.2 I would wait to see what other people have to say aswell.

The 9700 is way to big for the case I want to put it in. I know that case can bearly hold a 9500.

I am looking at the foxconn nf4 sli board its like $34.00 after a mir at newegg. I read you can take the fsb to 300, which should be plenty because I believe the multiplier on the 3800 is 12x.

I read a few reviews that think the 3800 venice runs out of steam around 2.7-2.8ghz. I am so used to a brisbane, with the old venice is it going to run really hot when I start throwing oc at it?

I keep forgetting the title "Semi-Budget" Sorry, I need some sleep I guess

do you know the stepping of the cpu? That could shed some light of its capabilities.

I guess for that price, and this being a budget build I would attempt to try that motherboard, but I am unsure of what its capable of.

There are a lot of good mobos, but just make sure you don't get an A8N-SLI SE. They only go up to 1.45V vcore and for a good overclock, that's usually not enough!
