Default The Need Now Budget COMPUTA!

What do you guys think about this?

AMD CPU Based Build

I already have a case, hard drive, optical drive and a video card. This is a budget build by the way, somewhat. I have already spent $80 on an Antec 900 case (bought from Fry's via B&M). Got a 8800GT for around $150 after rebate from this. Trying to limit myself to $500 for the CPU, PSU, mobo, and RAM.

Thanks in advance yo.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, main use for the computer will be Flash, Photoshop, Illustrator, 3ds Max, and HQ video viewing.

By the way, is it me or is there a really limited selection of PCI-E 2.0 capable AM2 socket mobos? Please excuse the newbie's question.

if u want budget grab a 690g mobo

a dual core BE if u can

2 gigs of the cheapest ram you can find. preferably 2 sticks of 1 gig

my budget builds for customers are around $300-$350 (tower only)

monitor and the like are extra.

Drop the Motherboard to an ASUS M3A, save some money, and put it towards a solid RAID setup.

Not sure if youve bought everything yet, but id go for the black edition 5000 instead. With the unlocked multiplier you have a better chance of reaching 3.3ghz

If I were buying a new PSU I would look at a single rail type as opposed to a multiple rail PSU, as long as it has ample amps on the +12v Rail. Like this PC Power & Cooling 610W that goes for about $120 and is superior to the OCZ in my opinion.

For a budget build with a single video card, there's no reason to go with an expensive 700w PSU like you've got in your cart. My 500w Rosewill cost $50 and powers my rig perfectly. Rosewills are cheap but surprisingly good quality power.

Here's a review by a guy who formerly worked in Ultra's PSU department and now works for BFG designing their PSUs.

Also, will you be using a 64-bit OS? If not, there's no reason to go with 4gb of RAM since it won't use it all. If so, that ram should work fine for budget ram. You might get better OC results from G.Skill or Crucial Ballistix, though.

I think you should get a Intel E2180 that would be more bang for the buck with a Gigabyte P35-DS5R or DS5L.
