Monitor - Samsung 24" (19" LCD died, currently using a fatty CRT 19", so this is why monitor is high priority) Ok
PSU - Silverstone 750W Ok
Memory - G.Skill 2x2Gig 1066 DDR2 Reaper are nice too
Mobo- EVGA 780i SLI Ok, might want to check Striker II 790i
DVD Drive - Lite-on/Plextor/LG multi format combo Ok
CPU - Q6600 Kentsfield (if price drops occur by the time I get to this, I'll buy slightly higher tier) Ok, there's also the q9300
GPU - 8800GTX 512 (lest there is a 1gig model I'm unaware of) Ok
Cooling - Still reviewing options
Case -Still reviewing options

@Durch

Okay, I'll buy things in this order.

- Samsung 24"
- G.Skill 2x2Gig 1000 DDR2 (although I still find myself teetering to 1066 simply because it's a larger number >_>)
- PSU: Corsair VX550W*
- DVD: Lite-on/Plextor/LG multi format combo
- Mobo: DFI P35 Blood Iron
- CPU: Q6600 (step up if there is a price drop)
- GPU: 8800 GTS (step up if there is a price drop)
- Case/Cooling

*Is 550W really enough? I know 750W is unnecessary power, but I just want to make sure 550W will be adequate since I'll be OC'ing everything to the max.

@Icono

I don't think the 9800's are for me. They cost way too much... Not only that, I can't stand to not apply filters, and an 8800GTX will perform the same given the monitor and settings I'll be using.

So far this is what things are going to look like for me:

From first to last, to avoid price-drops screwing me

Monitor - Samsung 24" (19" LCD died, currently using a fatty CRT 19", so this is why monitor is high priority)
PSU - Silverstone 750W
Memory - G.Skill 2x2Gig 1066 DDR2
Mobo- EVGA 780i SLI
DVD Drive - Lite-on/Plextor/LG multi format combo
CPU - Q6600 Kentsfield (if price drops occur by the time I get to this, I'll buy slightly higher tier)
GPU - 8800GTX 512 (lest there is a 1gig model I'm unaware of)
Cooling - Still reviewing options
Case -Still reviewing options

Now, does this sound good to anyone? Any adustments so far?

The only thing I can think of at the moment is to buy a 3870X2 instead of the 8800GTX, because I like the 1gig of ram.
1gig of gpu ram is a waste of money when paired with the 24" monitor.

I don't quite understand... More Vram=More filters and textures? Of course other factors are involved, but that's pretty much what it's there for isn't it? Why would less be worse? Would the 8800 bottleneck so it isn't worth it or something?

Looks good to me

Let me put it this way, I just finished building the following:
Corsair VX550W
X38 Mobo
two HD3870
Q6600 overclocked to 3.6GHz
500GB HDD
2x2GB memory
etc

and it works just fine. If the VX550W can power dual 3870's it can easily handle 1 8800GTS.

Some more info you probably didn't know: A video card cannot pull more than 75W from the PCIe slot. It also cannot pull more than 75W from the 6-pin power connector. That means that no matter what you throw at the 8800GTS, it cannot pull more than 150W from your PSU. The rest of the system will never pull more than 250W. So a 450W PSU is actually more than enough, but we'll go with a 550W for future proofing.

*NOTE: A video card with two 6-pin PCIe connectors or one 8-pin PCIe connector can pull up to 225W.

Don't get caught up in the marketing hype or the advice from noobs. 430-550W is what you should get for a single card system. The most important factor is the amps on the 12 volt rail(s) as well as the reputation of the company and the warranty. And believe me, the Corsair VX550W has PLENTY of amps and a loooong 5 year warranty. 550-700W is what you should get for SLI or Crossfire, 750W if it's on sale. Anything over that is just silly.

The 512mb of ram on the cards you're looking at are more than enough to satisfy your resolution needs. If you were getting a bigger monitor than the full gb might of vram might actually get used, but is just an overkill of a gimmick for the most part.

The Q6600 is at a great price right now at Fry's Electronics. Looks like it is time for you to step up, .

Why not just set aside money and then buy all the parts at once? You'll save money and probably get better parts.
