Default Advice on my build...

Hello,

I just recently sold my old computer and now I have a 900$ budget, this is the build I've come up with so far..

CPU - AMD Phenom 9850 BLACK EDITION 2.5GHz Socket AM2+ LINK

Motherboard - GIGABYTE GA-MA790FX-DS5 AM2+/AM2 AMD 790FX ATX LINK

Videocard - SAPPHIRE Toxic 100225TXSR Radeon HD 3870 512MB 256-bit GDDR4 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire LINK

RAM - Patriot Viper 4GB(2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit LINK

HDD - (2 of these) EXCELSTOR Jupiter Series ESJ8160S 160GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s LINK

PSU - Linkworld LPG2-43-P4-IO ATX12V 630W Power Supply LINK

That's all I have right now, if any of you can recommend a case (no more than 70$) or anything else with more bang-for-buck let me know.

Ack, get a better PSU (Power PC & Cooling, OCZ, Silverstone, etc). That's the last component you want to skimp on. For a case, go for a Coolmaster CM690.

All else seems ok. What monitor and OS? Plan to do any OCing?

Agreed, look for a non-budget PSU. Look for one that has one +12v rail with sufficient amps on that rail. A PC Power & Cooling 610W would suit your needs well. Planning on running 64-bit then? You will have to if you want to roll with a 2x2GB kit, or if you want it to recognize for then 3GB's of your 4GB total that is.

I believe that system performance on AMD systems actually sees little or no benefit from 4GB's. My suggestion would be to get a 2x1GB kit, and use the money for a better power supply and allow more money for a good case.

Look at my system, I purchased all my parts from Newegg except my PSU from which came from Xoxide, and it cost me around $900.

Save your self some money(nearly 80 dollars if you go with a AMD 64 x2 5000 BE) and go with a AMD 64 X2 chip if you don't need all the multitasking power of the Phenoms.

Most of your parts look up to spec if your going for a performance system at budget price tho Id follow the other advice and get a better PSU, Id suggest a modular one if its in your budget.
