hey everyone, i just wanted to know what is the difference between the AMD processors an the intel processors, the only i know that makes these two processors different is the hyper thread that intel has and the hyper trnsport which are almost the same but the dual cores on intel don't have hyper threads and the AMD dual cores do why is that?

To put it in short hand, AMD cpus are slower clock for clock than Intel's and overclock worse (excluding of course the opteron 160 which can easily do 200% it's original speed)
AMD's server cpus use on average 40% less power, and perform 10% slower than Intel's. AMD is usually cheaper than Intel.

More difference than that even though those are not related at all[hyperthreading-hypertransport]. amd's have the memory controller on the chip where intel does not,but will be i hear with the next generation.

Hyper threading and hyper transport are two very different things. Intel used hyper threading back in the P4 days to allow software to run multiple threads on one core (kind of like a fake dual core). Hyper transport is AMD's system for communicating between the CPU and memory.
The biggest difference between the two is the memory controllers. Intel MCs are located on the north bridge of the motherboard, while AMD MCs are located on the CPU itself.

is it true that AMD processors burn and catch fire while Intel processors only freeze when hot?

Hypertransport is not the same. I don't really know how to explain hyper-transport well, basically its the speed at which things communicate with the memory controller within the amd chips, I guess, its an upgraded front side bus more or less. Dual / Quad cores don't need hyperthreading since they already have multiple cores to compute multiple threads at a time, the majority of programs still aren't multi-threaded for quad cores anyways, so hyperthreading would be a complete waste.

If you take off the CPU cooler, the Intel may survive long enough to shut down, the AMD might burn out. I don't know whether the newest AMD cpus (Phenom quad, tri, and dual cores) will burn though. This is because Intel has been using the 65nm process for almost two years, AMD only recently moved from 90nm to 65nm. 90nm puts off a lot more heat than a 65.

so which is faster if the MC is on the CPU or if thye MC is suppose to be on the north chipset.

AMD has a better memory-system, but at the moment, Intel's Core 2's out perform AMD's Phenoms.

why is it that the AMD processors back in the day would burn up?
