what is an architecture and what happens if you add a processor that is faster to a Pc? by that i mean what if i added a CPU that my motherboard doesn't use like i have have an athlon +3800 2.0 GHZ on my computer, what if i add an athlon +5000 or +600 3.0 GHz. i talked to the company but they don't experiment with CPUs and motherboards

The architecture is how the CPU is designed and interacts with the motherboard.
__________________usually the architecture is specific to a certian timeframe. As CPU's are designed, they tend to have more pins to connect to the motherboard, so the different architectures are not compatible physically, as well as the hardware may not be compatible (like DDR2 and DDR). If you add a faster CPU to your motherboard, it will be faster, unless the motherboard does not support the CPU, then nothing will happen (as in your computer may not even post). It is up to the motherboard maker to upgrade their board to work with newer CPU's of the same architecture This is done with a BIOS update. Your motherboard maker should have what CPU's are supported on their product page. Durons are no more. Opterons are out as Dual and Quad cores. Semprons are still single core, but they do have a dual core for sale overseas, and should be here soon.

Your machine will apparently handle up to a 5200+, but unfortunately that will probably be the most you can put in there. OEM manufacturors are notorious for not releasing BIOS updates. You best bet is to look for a socket AM2 dual core chip to get a performance increase.
