I am planning on doing an extreme build of a phenom 9850BE. This would mean that I would possibly be going for spider platform records with multiple benchmarks. I also want 4x 3870 cards (for ddr4 in stead of 2x 3870x2).
Here is what I am thinking I will purchase (that isn't a secret )1. Gigabyte GA-MA790FX-DQ6 2. 4gb (2x 2gb) Geil Esoteria (ddr2 1066) 3. 4x 3870 (any good OC ing brand... suggestions please )4. Efficient 1/2" W/C system of some sort. (suggestions here too )I won't let my details out, but I am somewhat confident that with the right week B3 chip I will reach a decent clockspeed. Wish me luck! (when I get around to it) UPDATE: 5/12/08 System is up and running! the swiftech apogee gt was a successful and easy mod to make fit the AM2+ mobo, but watercooling is a pain in the butt. ![]() ![]()

I wish you luck, when you get around to it.
![]() I like the Gigabyte 3870 512MB, and I have not heard of a particular brand standing out as a great overclocker. The Gigabyte are known to be a quieter card, so with four running it will not seem as though helicopter is landing in your house. On another note, have you considered the powering of the proposed system. You will likely have to run two power supplies to have sufficient amps to run and overclock this system. Something to ponder.

I personally like the Asus EAH3870, it runs quite well for me.

I've heard 2x2 gig kits don't overclock that well, and I wouldn't think it the difference between 2 gig to 4 gig would help any. Other then that, looks good and good luck

Are you gonna water cool all the cards? If so then the cooler on them doesn't matter... I'd say VisionTek then... If you don't WC the cards then buy Accelero S1 for all of them or get 4 3870 HIS ICEQ3 Turbo

I've personally heard excellent things about the HIS IceQ3 3870. And I'd also like to note that this looks like an excellent build...can't wait to see it!

if you want OCable 3870s, i HIGHLY recommend the GeCube HD3870 X-Turbo III O.C.Edition. comes with a modded BIOS for added OCing, and comes stock clocked @ 810/1125
also, the cooler is very good. Very, Very good. from personal experience, at 885/1180 (guaranteed safe speeds by the maker) it is exactly the same as a stock 8800GT. down to 3dM06, even. it can hit 900+ with a volt mod, i hear... never tried on mine though. King of the 3870s? you betcha. http://www.ebuyer.com/product/139327 http://www.hardwarezone.com/articles...?cid=3&id=2450 http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthread.php?t=33912530

I am actually starting to get worried about all 4 cards fitting in the board. Here is a picture to illustrate what I mean.
![]() I will need low profile cards, or watercooling with elbow joints.
