![]() Whenever Triton, son of Poseidon, blew into his shell horn, great floods and powerful storms were all under his control. Well, would there have been DFI boards at that time, he surely would have been using one instead. Self-proclaimed insiders use to say that S939 is dead, as they claim the same about AGP, while the industry sells HD3850 AGP. Legends never die and now the Socket 939 in cooperation with an Opteron 185, proudly present a submarine adventure and the exploration of Triton's water-forces. And if that shouldn't be enough we'll switch from submarine to sub-zero ![]() This rig is not a new build but another update to the neverending story. It's actually controlled by a powerful Triad, - The cfx3200 (RD580) chipset - The dual core Opteron 185 and - The Teamgroup Xtreem RAM (Poseidon DDR550, Hermes DDR600) (which all act under the roof of the Antec 900) ![]() From its first hour of being, it started as a CF system, once with 2x X1950 GT that were flashed to X1950 Pro. Pictures, benchmark results and a detailed description of all former components is here: RAMDAC The status quo before this build log was a simple QuadFire sys on air with stock coolers, except the Zalman CNPS9700. ![]() So let's start with the log entry: [PHASE 1 - Deconstruction & Reassembling] MB: DFI LP UT CFX3200-DR First of all the proper parts had to be carefully picked out from my collection. The decision came to the Zalman ZM-WB4 GOLD for the CPU (Red marked), one of the Thermaltake Aqua Brazing All Copper W2 VGA Coolers for the NB (Blue marked) and the Watercool Heatkiller for the SB (Green marked). ![]() As this was done, the chosen parts had to be made compatible for the board NB: Thermaltake Aqua Brazing All Copper W2 This VGA cooler needed some modification prior to installing. ![]() And instead of using the NB screw, using the Mobo's ![]() SB: Watercool Heatkiller The Heatkiller needed also some mods for compatibility, The red marked part has been made flatter to fit better under the 2nd HD3870X2 ![]() ![]() And the red marked area was completely removed ![]() plus I had to cut away a corner of the SATA port, to bend the Elko a bit for the huge Heatkiller. ![]() But all that wasn't enough, so the Heatkiller had to lose weight once again. ![]() Ok, once the MB parts had been set up, the cleaning and polishing of the components started ![]() ![]() ![]() Meanwhile the CPU proceeded a transformation too. ![]() And the Northbridge received one last present, a marble pyramid. ![]() All right, one PCB was set up, the next ones were the graphics. GFX: 2x Sapphire Radeon HD3870X2 ![]() ![]() @h2o XSPC Razor 3870X2 ![]() Can you find the difference between the 2 cards? ![]() The XSPC Razor HD3870X2 under UV ![]() The XSPC Dual Bay and a custom made reservoir under UV ![]() Last dry test for compatibility With one card: fits! ![]() With two cards: fits! ![]() [/END OF PHASE 1 - Deconstruction & Reassembling] Coming up... The water triad: The choosing of the pumps ![]() The reservoir connection: The modification of a Reserator and the radiator extensions ![]() ![]() ![]() The Waterchill fraction: The modification of a Hailea Ultra ![]() The Vapochill section: Modification of the Danfoss compressor and the condensation question ![]() And the search for light:

woah great!
the difference between the video cards is that the one on the left doesn't have the fan connector ![]() I win! Great system, I'm loving it! Just make sure the radiators come before the refrigerators in the loop, otherwise they will heat the water to room temperature
