Default Need Help With a $500 Build

I have never tried AMD before, as I have never really been on a budget. For this reason I have never really looked at their lower end stuff. Maybe a cheap processor and I can overclock it. I have no idea how well the AMD chips OC compared to the C2D chips.
This computer will be used for some games on occasion, but it will not be a gaming machine. The resolution will be 1024x768, and some newer games will be played, but mainly stuff like COD4, CSS, WOW.

Any suggestions would be great. I am gong to look through the other AMD build logs to see what I can find from that.

EDIT: I will not be buying from newegg (they don't ship to canada) but new egg links are fine and I will look for the parts on canadian stores. Links from canadian stores are also welcome.

EDIT 2: A optical drive is not needed, but a wireless card is.

Not really sure what you wanted for a wireless card, figured i would leave that up to u or someone else. Also not sure if needed a HDD but i included the goods.

X2 5000 Black Edition $87.99 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103194

Mobo $99.99 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131289

RAM $85.00 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145184

EVGA 9600GT if you want to go NVidia - $139.99 after MIR http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130334

ASUS 3870 if you want to go ATI - $152.99 after MIR http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814121233

Corsair 550VX PSU - $79.99 after MIR http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139004

Total going the ATI way - $504.97 (and there r cheaper ATI 3870 cards or u could even go with a 3850)
Total going the Nvidia way -$492.96

I'd go with amd because he won't use this for high end stuff so he probably won't overclock too

That looks pretty good for the price. That would make a nice general pc and the 8800gts will give it a boost for gaming.

wireless card
I have one of these and they work quite well. For $30 after mir its a great card.

I'd say go for Retrospekt's list. Intel is still ahead of the game by a fair bit and if you decide to do ANYTHING overclocking, they're the way to go...especially with the E2180.

The problem with the Intel E2180 is that it is not available in many Canadian stores.

How well does the AMD processor suggested overclock?

ok, I maybe a newbie to OC'ing BUT phenoms for OC'ing are a no go but the older amd processors are well good for oc'ing. for instance my old comp single core 3.4GHz amd (2.0GHz standard) I oc'd it to 3GHz on a fairly low voltage and underload it does 51C!!!

It works great too, no crashes when I use it for about 2hours on Mount & blade.
