Default Cheap X2 build ?

Since Amd are cheaper than intel, altho they do not overclock well, im looking for a cheap Amd athlon X2 build.

6000+ (3 or 3.2 ghz, but maybe slower are ok if they cheaper) It's for medium gaming and mostly to upgrade my sigrig.

2, but preferably 4 gig 1066 or 800 ram.

250 to 500gb hdd, 2x250 in raid + 500gb backup or a plain 250 gig.

a good graphic card like 4870 at 200$

I don't know which mobo, DFI sells good mobo but cost like 170$.

The goal however is to bring the cost down to 300-400 or 600$.

P.S is it worth it to get amd black edition to oc it ?

case: cheap w/ some fans (antec 300 ?)

I don't really know what parts i should buy.

monitor: samsung 731bw (17" 5:4 1280x1024) or something like it

ouch. I thought of 400 to 600$ .... Why is it that expensive, its only a dual core, i thought is was way cheaper than intel.

Is it doable with 400-600$ ?

PS: im from canada , no egg. i usually check ncix. but anyway, same price

I only have my sig rig

i was thinking about ocz fereze paste or AS5 and TRUE Black edition for the heatsink, but since you can only geet 200-300 mhz from AMD, is it really worth it, maybe the stock cooler is ok.

antec 300 is the same price

the board seems nice for future phenom however there is 125 watts phenom and 140 watts phenom that are coming and some mobo only supports older 95 watts model.

maybe i could use a cheap card like a 100$ 8800gt and add a 4870 later

The 4870 is $300 right now, and not $200 as you mentioned.

I am working on an $600 rig...

How's this for measurement (all from www.directcanada.com, since they're cheaper than ncix. But I understand ncix has price matching, so maybe you can use that).
  • Western Digital SE16 320GB SATA2 7200RPM 16MB Cache $72.22CAD
  • Powercolor Radeon HD 4850 512MB GDDR3 PCI-E $192.92CAD
  • AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ Dual Core Processor Socket AM2 2.4GHZ $68.50CAD
  • Gigabyte GA-MA78G-DS3H AMD780G ATX AM2+ $94.44CAD
  • G.SKILL F2-6400CL5D-2GBNQ PC2-6400 2GB 2X1GB DDR2-800 $59.40CAD
  • Corsair VX550W 550W ATX 12V 41A 24PIN ATX Power Supply $84.00CAD
  • Antec Three Hundred Mini Tower Gaming Case $52.33CAD
  • Liteon LH-20A1L DVD+RW 20X8X16 DVD-RW $28.62CAD
$652.43 total

That's the best I can do. You won't find an $100 8800GT... they still run around $175 new

I think this mobo might be better.

http://www.directcanada.com/products...nufacture=ASUS

The 780g don't overclock that well so i think a 770 chipset might be better.
