Well I went ahead and made the purchase just before the 9950 went up for sale. I dont regret not waiting too much since they are both BE editions and should overclock about the same. The only thing I regret is one of the 9950 newegg bundles could have saved me a few more bucks.

Thanks for confirming that it comes with a stock HSF. I havent ordered an aftermarket, I want to see how far I can get with the stock fan first.

Well the build is 99% complete now, I'm just looking at some cpu cooling options to get a better overclock.

Some notes of interest.

- Hybrid Crossfire with the 780G IGP and the 4850 isnt possible (at this time?). In fact some versions of Catalyst created BSOD when PCI-E and IGP were both enabled. Catalyst 8.6 was the first to identify both and let me use the additional outputs to drive up to additional monitors, but there is still no option to Crossfire them. I do have hopes of running FAH-GPU2 on the IGP. At first I didnt think it was possible it always ran on the 4850, but now I see there is a command line option to specifiy GPU. I'll be trying this shortly.

-The Foxconn A7GM-S AM2+ identifies the X4-9850 but refuses to allow me to adjust multiplier. All my overclocking so far has been the old fashioned way (fsb). I sent them an email since their forums were down the other day, still waiting for a response. I still have hope this can/will be resolved.

-The most resonable overclock I have achieved is 2.75 ghz, 220X12.5. The CPU temps under load with the stock cooler were approaching 60C. Tempature is the only 'wall' I have hit so far, havent had to mess with stock voltages, and no problems with the ram speeds yet.

According to the latest CFX Combination Options Chart, AMD 780G is supports hybrid CFX with HD 3470, 3450, 2400 GPUs.

That's insane. I strongly recommend running it back on stock since 60C is the CPU's maximum temperatures. Better safe than sorry

Yeah I knew that when I ordered but I was also hoping that chart was outdated like much of the other stuff on amd's site. For example there isnt even a mention of the 48xx cards when searching for drivers.

No. There is a newer bio's update avaliable but the change log makes no mention of this particular issue. I figure I will let Foxconn respond first.

Thanks for the advice.

Well Tomshardware just reviewed a batch of coolers, I was looking thru those- but it seems that with cpu coolers its all about surface area so the larger ones tend to cool better. I'll have to do some measuring when I get home.

OCZ Vendetta 2 would be my suggestion coupled with artic cooling MX-2. Congratulations on the new build.

Thanks for the recommendations on cpu fans, unfortunately I dont think I will be able to fit any model that features a vertically mounted 120mm fan.

I think I'll be looking for a similar design featuring a 90mm fan to err on the side of caution.
