A program like Rightmark, or CrystalCPUID can be used to manually input power-states. So, you have an OC, but you want it to idle in a low state, well, instead of CnQ trying to load a low powerstate using an overclocked FSB, you define a safe low power state with one of the programs. When you wish to game, the CPU jumps up to your OC state. User-customizable CnQ.

Can said programs also reduce Voltage? CnQ drops voltage from 1.325 V to 1.100 V (spec; my board is 1.318 V and 1.080 V respectively) and the multiplier from whatever it is to 9x or 5x.

I just got this processor, same problem. Used my mobo's Utility software and works fine reading temps. And I'd just disable C&Q. I did. You can use amd overdrive to change multi, fsb or voltage with it in windows.

Yes, it allows for multiplier and voltage control for 3 or more power states...I think rightmark has more than 4 possible power states, but that seems excessive. I used to use it all the time, but nowadays I fold 24/7 so I just use CrystalCPUID to undervolt the CPU.

I just downloaded and ran CrystalCPUID. Powerful freeware it is.

I am right now running at 3200 MHz with a 25 mV BIOS increase. Crystal CPUID can drop me to 1800 MHz and 1000 MHz on the fly. I need to tinker with the automatic settings now, but expect me to start seeing what this baby can do!

AMD Overdrive will not boot on my PC. Keeps telling me make sure I run the program as administrator when I tell it to run as administrator.

it's pretty amazing software, I swear by it, Rightmark never really worked for me, always some compatibility issue. The only trouble with Crystal is that in Vista 64 driver signing disables the driver it uses, but I just haven't installed the updates, or SP1, as to avoid potentially crippling the software.

I have Vista Ultimate 64 SP1. Crystal CPUID installed and runs without incident. Driver Signing is on.

Unless you mean running at boot? I really haven't figured out how to use the software fully yet.

All I know, is back when I first started using Vista 64, there were two updates that caused driver signing to be on by default, regardless of the manual override command through the command prompt. Without the driver signing disabled, I wasn't able to to change the voltage of the processor with CrystalCPUID. I don't know if the driver has changed or not, but that's the issue I had initially.
