OK so I've had this idea eating at the back of my brain for a while now, I have a old dell Pentium pro case and innards etc laying around. so I thought why not gut the case and put a "fast" cpu mb in the old dell case. I want to keep it cheep cuz collage is expensive here are the options I have going atm.

I believe in the Auto enthusiast arena, this would be called a "sleeper" of sorts. All stock/old looking on the outside. Can o' whooparse on the inside

I have had the same idea eat @ the back of my mind aswell, but I quickly dismiss it almost every time because I think "Oh, high-end rigss have to be flashy" "it's not good unless, blah blah blah!" If I had the extra money, I'd probably go order a 8086(or something of the like) computer off of fleabay, strip out the innerds, and mod in all new stuff!

Additionally this may have a semi-unrealized benefit(at least in my mind, lol). If you use an old(not worth much anymore) computer's case w/ Nice new, mid-high end(expensive, worth alot for someone to sell). It may(or may not) draw less attn if you're living in a dorm or w/e. I have heard here and there about ppl getting stuff stolen, so the less tantalizing for you average thief looking for a quick buck, the better. Or maybe I'm just coo coo? lol.

also: Intel. Maybe got for a e5200 and spend the savings on a better GPU?

Yep, get the e5200 and an HD3870 IMO. Also if you can squeeze it go for a 2x1GB kit of memory.

Just make sure you get the right air flow going thru that old case, whether you need to cut a few discrete holes yourself to accomplish it or not. But I used to be big in the car scene and you always had to watch out for sleepers!
