Talking AMD build/workstation

Hi guys got a few questions about my first ever upcoming build. My hesitation is my CPU/Motherboard combo as I am a little undecided as to which would be better for the applications I will be using it for. This will be a
part HTPC/Mild Gamer/work station with dual monitors.
my componets so far include:

AMD phenom x4 9500/ X2 5400
ASUS M3A 79- T Deluxe 790FX/ Gigabyte GA-MA74GM-S3 740G Chipset
2-4 GB DDR2 800 PC6400 RAM
PowerColor Radeon HD 3850 512MB PCIx
80/160 GB hDD---OS
750/1Tb HDD---storage
LG 20X DL DVD Writer

Any suggestions to get me on the right path would be greatly appreciated.

not bad to start. is there any kind of budget for this??? 3850 should be alright for mild gaming. The motherboardds r fine, although i would go with the ASUS 790 FX since its the better chipset. The 5400 is a good dual core processor. However if u want to go quad, stay away from the 9500's/9600's, you will want to go with any Phenom that ends with "50", so that gives u the 9550, 9650, 9750, 9850, or 9950. Also, what type of RAM were u thinking about going with. If you need suggestions, GSkill, Crucial Ballistix, OCZ, Corsair, or Mushkin r all really good brands. hope the helps you out some.

Gmoney, thanks man for the advice, i think I will go with the 5400 and the Asus. As far as Ram I have been using Super Talent(4 GB) but will look at tryin something else. One more question what size ps should I use as I will also add maybe another HDD or DVD rom later on.any you recommend?

in my opinion and a lot of others here on OCN, Corsair makes excellent power supplies. Something like this would easily suffice and it has a great price on it right now.

good luck with the build and oh yea, one more thing. Since ur gonna be getting the 5400 which will most likely be a black edition processor. You will need to get a heat sink for that processor. Heard a lot of good things about the OCZ vendetta 2.

alright after some time I have finally ptu my rig together. This what I finally decided on.
NMedia 1000B Case, Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2HP, AMD 9350e, 4GB A-Data RAM, Corsair 400w PS
LG Blu-Ray-DVD-RW, Pallit 3870. WD 640G HDD.
My only problem now is that I cant get the darn thing to power up inside the case. I did a pre-boot outside of the case and all is fine but once inside and everything is hook up ...nothing. What could be the culprit? I checked all the standoffs etc but all is fine there is there anything else I should be looking for? any help would be appreciated.
