Going intel with SLI will cost you another $150 for the mobo at least, so its probably not worth it.

I think you should just stay where you are. You won't get as nice an OC with Phenoms with your motherboard as you would with a newer one, so I doubt you would see any more gaming increases.

Wait for Deneb, it would suck to pay a substantial amount for a Phenom that would get you to maybe 2.8GHz, just to have every one else running 4GHz on air with their Phenom IIs come January.

I went from a M2N32 WS Pro and X2 4000+ to my sig rig and it's awesome ;]

Something to consider when using an AM2+ CPU with an AM2 board

Quote:
Socket AM2+ ( HT 3.0 spec up to actual 2.0 Ghz HT link speed, the older HT 2.0 spec maxes out at 1600 Mhz ( 800Mhz up and down ). So while new Phenom socket AM2+ cpu WILL work in your older Socket AM2 mobo, it cannot run the full HT link speed of 2.0 Ghz that it was designed for( you will have to overclock your HT link/bus speed to get the cpu to the right factory frequency, assuming cpu multipliers are locked on these things like they usually are.. at least locked upwards of stock value that is ). If you cannot get your HT link speed up to full 2.0 Ghz, then no worries, 1.6 Ghz of older HT 2.0 spec is more than sufficient bandwidth, you will just be "underclocking" your cpu unless AMD decides to leave the cpu multiplier unlocked from factory on all Phenom chips (very doubtful).
I don't think it would make much difference? I've always wondered, someone care to enlighten me? ;]

so is dual core better for games?
In case of Intel, yes, since their quads and dual-cores are based on same architecture (Core2). In case of AMD, no, since Athlons (dual-core) and Phenoms (quad/tri-core) are based on distinctly different architectures, and Phenoms are much more efficient when compared to Athlons as far as clock-for-clock performance is concerned. A 9950 (AMD's best quad currently out) will at worst perform on par with a 6400+ (AMD's best dual-core out right now), and the two extra cores will always help, so I'd go Phenom.

However, the Phenom II's will blow all of AMD's current offerings out of the water, so if you can just wait a little longer, I'd go for them...

No way in hell! Current-gen AMD CPUs suck at OCing, your chip is an exceptionally high-quality freak if it makes it past 3.6GHz, usually AMD chips hit their ceiling around 3.4GHz... the upcoming Denebs OC a lot better (4GHz fairly easy).

Having Both:

5000+ Black Edition

&

9850 Black Edition

I can say there is no comparison between the 2, Hands down the 9850 Black is by far superior in games.

It's not the framerates, It's the smoothness. Where as the 5000+ Black will sometimes feel like it's chugging the 9850 Black just takes it in stride.

I honestly don't care for benchmarks, I care about how it feels......And a phenom is the better choice.

By the way My 5000+ Black is OC'd to 3.3ghz

And my Phenom I keep at 3.2ghz And have had it up to 3.469ghz.

Even with the 9850 @ 3.0ghz it's better then my 5000+ Black @3.3ghz

My 5000+ Black was supposed to be my gaming rig......That changed very fast.

You have an AM2+ board, so your HT speeds will be the same as the new phenom II, so in that sense, everything will be fine (the "bottleneck" will occur when running an AM2+ or AM3 chip in a plain AM2 board, because the HT speeds are different).

In another sense, your mobo wont allow for as high of OCs, as the newer SB750 boards, which as of right now, are allowing about a 100-400MHz higher OC than their SB600 counterparts.

The SB750 is supposed to be the key to overclocking a Phenom II, which makes it a really hard choice what to do right now. I would either get a SB750 board right now, and change nothing else untill jan, or I would get nothing now, and then after you get a deneb, you can decide about if you want to get a new mobo or not.

If you absolutely cant wait for an upgrade... I would get the 8750 BE, because its in a good price/performance spot right now (will OC to 3.5GHz on a SB750, and is $135...).

Good luck with whatever you do.
