im sort of liking the 940 more but not sure,
ill be upgrading from a amd x2 3800,lol
http://promotions.newegg.com/AMD/Phe...%2f620x130.jpg
plus im looking at getting this ram for $55 thats $24 after rebate,
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145184
i already have a ENERMAX Liberty ELT500AWT 500W powersupply i hope it will be enuff power,

I've been looking through these combo deals as soon as I got to work this morning. Some nice deals, I currently have the MSI K9A2 plat (hasnt been a bad board) but I went ahead and ordered http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131339 for the new SB chipset. You should go ahead and go for the 940 though.

heres a list of recommended MB on AMD's site

so ill just get the mb on the combo or something 60 range or less,
if i do any oc its not much,
dont think my 500watt ps will let me do much anyways,

i would say if ur planning on OC'ing definitely go with the 940, it has the unlocked multiplier to make it easier to overclock. Otherwise the 920 is still a pretty decent quad and u could just go with that. Also check out the prices on some 1066 RAM, its not too much pricier

I have phenom 9950 and my 550W PSU isn't enough for a little OC, So for phenom II i think 750Watt isn't really a waste. But just take 940 you always have more fun with it and it is an BE so unlocked multiplier.. if you spend that lot of money don't safe money for the better 1 for few bugs more.

And a motherboard with a NB 790GX (or FX) and SB750 is what's the best for the Phenom's

I got a 920 and a DFI 790GX board. I was a bit wary of that BIOSTAR, and I'm not sure how much I would really need the unlocked Mult. It was under $400, and I feel I got a better deal on it than otherwise.

Lol, don't even buy a phenom ii. They still perform worse than a core 2 duo (e8400) and up in most applications, especially games.

Because most games and applications aren't made for quad cores that's reason why that intel processor is better look in benchmarks, the e8600 almost make same FPS as the QX9770, the quad makes like 3 fps more? and cost 1100 dollar more? You people watching too much to benchmarks, look more about the fun and how many applications you can use with it. and the difference between 120 fps or 80 fps? You wont even see it so...

Where did you come up with that all of the reviews say the Phenom II is out preforming the C2s in gaming. They are hitting 4GHz on air over at Xtremesystems and 4.5GHz on liquid already. I don't think I would have made a comment like that until I saw what they were capable of.

E8400 outperforms the lower one easily (and almost the higher one) in the first test. Outperforms both in the second.

http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets...px?i=3492&p=18

E8400 outperforms both.

E8400 is @ 270 with nice Mobo
Phenom II 920 closer to about 320.

Furthermore,

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...0,2114-19.html

phenom ii is performing approximately on par with the Q6600. according to tomshardware q3 2008 desktop cpu charts, the e8400 murders the q6600 for sum of fps benchmarks (margins up to 40%!). We can therefore extrapolate, that the e8400 would also beat the phenom ii in the same benchmarks.

Core 2 Duo and Phenom ii probably have equal OCing headroom to boot (same 45um die) . Most people are achieving about 40% aircooled OC on e8400 (4.3) and though I haven't seen many OCing numbers on the Phenom ii, i wouldn't imagine it being any more than 50% aircooled.

So yes, I did my research before posting sir.
